WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO HIGH POINT, 1-0



HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford women's soccer team suffered its fifth Big South Conference setback by one goal Saturday night, as defending tournament champion High Point used a first-half tally for a 1-0 decision.
 
The Highlanders (6-10-0, 1-7-0) have now come up just a single goal short in six of their defeats overall this season. High Point, meanwhile, added to its program record with its 10th shutout (9-3-4, 4-2-1), including five of its last six contests.
 
The Panthers tallied the match's lone goal in the 27th minute as Meg Kowalski put home rebound attempt after a teammate's shot was blocked by Radford's defense.
 
High Point had a 21-6 advantage in shots for the game, including 8-3 on goal. Katie McCormick made seven saves to keep it a one-goal deficit. The sophomore now has a career-high 77 on the season.
 
Asyia Mitchell put both of her shot attempts on goal, while Sammie Shiflette had one. Four of the Highlanders six shots came following halftime, while High Point's shot total was cut in half in the second 45 minutes.
 
"In the second half, we changed some tactics and were all over them, and deserved a goal or two," Radford head coach Ben Sohrabi said. "Asyia and several others were excellent in the second half. Katie played well and made three top-level saves."
 
Radford will plays its last road game of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon at Coastal Carolina, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. The Highlanders then return home for Senior Night on Saturday against Winthrop.
