Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

FIRST-PLACE COASTAL DEFEATS HIGHLANDERS

CONWAY, S.C. – The Radford women's soccer team fell to Big South-leading Coastal Carolina by a 4-1 score Wednesday afternoon in its final road match of the season.

Jordan Lundin scored the goal for the Highlanders (6-11-0, 1-8-0) in the first half that made it a 2-1 game. Coastal (10-5-1, 6-1-1) added a pair of second-half goals to set the final margin.

The host Chanticleers got on the board with two goals in the game's first 17 minutes, including one by 2014 first-team all-conference selection Amber Adams on the game's first attempt.

Radford came on strong in the final third of the half, outshooting the Chanticleers 4-0 and cutting into the deficit in the 34th minute. Asyia Mitchell's run up the left side led to a corner kick and Lundin was able to her tuck her ball through an opening just inside the near post. It was her second of the season directly off a corner and the fifth tally of her career. Also for RU in the closing stretch of the half, Jane Everett put a pair of shots from just outside the box on goal to force saves.

However, Coastal freshman Kayla Christian made it 3-1 in the 61st minute on a shot to the upper corner. She then scored her team-high eighth of the season on a rebound following a pair of saves by Katie McCormick.

The Chanticleers finished the game with an 18-11 shots advantage, with Radford putting six of their attempts on goal, while winning the corner kick battle 5-2. Hannah Thomas came off the sideline to record a team-high four shots for the Highlanders and McCormick totaled six saves.

Radford will return home to close out the season with a Saturday evening match against Winthrop on Senior Night at Cupp Stadium. Prior to the 6 p.m. kickoff, the graduating members of the team will be honored for their achievements and commitment to the program.
