DEFENSE FUELS VOLLEYBALL’S COMEBACK AGAINST GARDNER-WEBB

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Behind 74 digs and nine blocks, Radford secured its first Big South volleyball win of the season, 3-1, over Gardner-Webb, Saturday evening inside the Dedmon Center.
  • After dropping the opening stanza, the Highlanders were able to ramp up their defense, improving their sideout percentage to at least 57 percent in the final three sets.
  • They boasted an impressive 73 percent sideout clip in the third frame.
  • RU went the distance in the fourth set, fighting off a Runnin' Bulldog set point before prevailing, 29-27.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Kelby Jackson was sensational in the back row, collecting 21 digs to pace four Highlanders in double digits. It was her fifth 20-dig performance of the season.
  • Savanna Burton (16), Kaylor Nash (15) and Haley Kleespies (12) also reached double-figure digs.
  • Megan Short sparked the offense with her match-high 16 kills. She hit .500 in the process.
  • Kleespies assisted on 43 Radford kills to earn the sixth double-double of her freshman campaign.
  • Taylor Bouras played a role in seven of Radford's nine team blocks.
  • Cheyanne James assisted on four rejections.
  • Tyra Montour led Gardner-Webb with 10 kills and 10 digs.
  • Anna Pashkova racked up a match-high 28 digs en route to setting the Gardner-Webb all-time digs record.

  • Radford returns to the road next weekend as the Highlanders visit High Point (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Campbell (Saturday at 3 p.m.).
