RADFORD, VCU COLLIDE ON NATIONAL STAGE MONDAY NIGHT

SETTING THE STAGE
  • Coming off its thrilling season-opening victory at Georgetown, the Radford men's basketball team continues its roadtrip with an in-state showdown at VCU, Monday night.
  • Tipoff inside the Siegel Center in Richmond is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.
  • Series: VCU leads, 5-3
  • Last meeting: VCU 94, Radford 80 (Dec. 18, 1999)
  • The home team has won every game in the all-time series. This will be the Highlanders' sixth visit to VCU. RU's last victory over the Rams came in 1998 (86-62).
  • The matchup offers a return for head coach Mike Jones to one of his most successful stops prior to coming to the New River Valley.
  • Jones served as an assistant at VCU under former head coach Shaka Smart for two seasons, helping the Rams reach the Final Four in 2011.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 1-0
  • Radford won its season opener for the first time in four seasons and started a campaign with a true road victory for the first time since 1987, ending a steak of 11 consecutive losses.
  • The Highlanders are looking for a 2-0 start for the first time since 2011-12, but those two victories came over Delaware and Shenandoah.
  • Senior Rashun Davis had a career-high performance against Georgetown, scoring 28 points, highlighted by his game-winning 3-pointer.
  • In his first career start as a Highlander, Cameron Jones tallied 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He made four of his six attempts from 3-point land to equal a career high.
  • Kion Brown posted his second double-double at RU, scoring 10 points and equaling a career-best with 10 rebounds.
  • After missing last season with injury, sophomore Justin Cousin returned to the lineup in a starting role and contributed six points, one rebound and one steal.
