HIGHLANDERS HEAD TO RHODE ISLAND FOR 2K CLASSIC GAMES

SETTING THE STAGE
  • The Radford men's basketball team returns to the road as it travels to Rhode Island to play a pair of games in a sub-regional of the 2K Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project. Bryant College will host the doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
  • The Highlanders open play against Siena Friday at 4 p.m. Depending on the outcomes of Friday's games, they will then face Bryant or Prairie View A&M on Saturday. Tipoff for that contest will either be at 4 or 7 p.m.
  • Series: Siena leads, 3-1.
  • Last meeting: Radford 76, Siena 66 (Dec. 19, 2014)
  • This will be the third meeting between the teams in the last four seasons. They exchanged victories on their homecourts with Siena winning by eight in 2013 and Radford returning the favor with a 10-point margin last year.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 2-1
  • Radford's bench led the way in Wednesday night's win over Catawba in the home opener. The Highlander reserves combined for 36 of the team's 68 points.
  • Senior guard Taj Owens enjoyed a career night, setting new personal highs with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.
  • Freshman Ed Polite, Jr. and Darius Bolstad each posted their best point and rebound totals of their young RU careers.
  • With redshirt freshman Sterling Christy contributing career-highs of seven points and five rebounds in his first career start, Radford got 27 points and 20 rebounds from players in their first collegiate seasons.
  • Through three games, Polite is fourth on the team in scoring with 7.3 ppg and second in rebounding with 5.3 per game.
  • Rashun Davis saw his team-leading scoring average drop to 17.7, while he is now at 6.3 assists per contest.
  • Cameron Jones is shooting 47 percent from 3-point range, making 8 of 17 attempts.
  • The win over Catawba marked the ninth time that Radford has won while shooting under 40 percent in 53 such games under head coach Mike Jones.
  • The two games will cap a stretch of four in six days and five in eight days for the Highlanders.

SCOUTING SIENA
  • Record: 0-2
  • Siena is playing its first game since last weekend when it faced against both of last year's national championship game participants on the road. The Saints fell at Duke (92-74) in their opener before losing to Wisconsin (92-65) two days later.
  • Junior guard Marquis Wright, a three-year captain, has led the way so far with 18.5 points and 4.5 assists. He is shooting 51 percent from the field and tallied 20 points against Duke.
  • Junior Javion Long is second with 14.5 ppg, with more than half the points coming at the free throw line.
  • Freshman guard Nico Clareth scored a team-high 21 points off the bench against Wisconsin after recording just two in the opener.
  • Redshirt junior forward Brett Bisping has returned after missing all but six games last year with injury, including the game against Radford. Bisping, who was the MVP of Siena's CBI title run in 2014, is averaging six points and 5.5 rebounds so far this year.

SCOUTING BRYANT
  • Record: 1-1
  • Bryant notched its first win of the season Wednesday night, defeating Division III Emerson College, 82-69. Like Siena, the Bulldogs also opened the season with a loss to Duke (113-75).
  • Junior forward Dan Garvin is the team's top returning scorer and rebounder, averaging 10.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game last season to earn All-NEC second team honors.
  • Garvin had eight points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes against Duke, but did not play in the Emerson game.
  • Sophomore guard Hunter Ware has averaged 23.5 points in the first two games, including 24 against Duke as he made 6 of 11 3-pointers. Overall, he shot 9 of 15 in each contest.
  • Freshman guard Nisre Zouzoua has averaged 19.5 points and made 14 of 23 attempts from the field, including 8 of 15 from long range.

SCOUTING PRAIRIE VIEW A&M
  • Record: 0-2
  • Prairie View A&M opened the season with a 75-50 loss at VCU before losing at Houston 110-69 on Wednesday night.
  • Senior forward Karim York is the Panthers' lone returning starter. He averaged 9.1 points and 5.1 rebounds last season and led the team against VCU with 13 points.
  • Junior guard Tevin Bellinger scored a team-high 19 points against Houston, while junior forward Admassu Williams had 17.
  • Bellinger and Williams, both junior college transfers, are among 12 newcomers on Prairie View's 19-member roster.
