RADFORD CAPS OFF ROAD SWING AT PENN STATE TUESDAY

SETTING THE STAGE
  • The Radford men's basketball team head back out on the road to cap off a grueling early-season schedule with a matchup at Penn State Tuesday night.
  • Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. inside the Bryce Jordan Center and the game will air on the Big Ten Network.
  • Series: Penn State leads, 1-0.
  • Last meeting: Penn State 62, Radford 46 (Nov. 14, 2011)
  • This will be just the second all-time meeting between the schools and second trip to Penn State for the Highlanders.
  • It will also be RU's first outing against a Big Ten opponent at the time of the game since that contest against the Nittany Lions. Radford played current conference member Maryland later in the 2011-12 season when the Terrapins were an ACC school.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 3-2
  • Radford will be playing its fifth game in eight days, with four of them away from home.
  • The Highlanders have been led by their bench over the last four games as RU's reserves have combined for 141 points for an average of 35.3 per game.
  • Freshmen Ed Polite, Jr. and Darius Bolstad have been the biggest contributors to that success averaging over 17 points and 12 rebounds per game as a duo.
  • With three straight double-figure games, Polite, Jr. is third on the team in scoring for the season at 9.0 per contest. He also leads the team with 6.2 rebounds a game. His total of 18 offensive boards for the year leads the Big South Conference.
  • Bolstad is averaging 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and scored in double figures the last two games, while going a perfect 7 for 7 from the field. Over the last three contests, he had made 10 of his 11 field-goal attempts.
  • Rashun Davis shares the Big South lead with six assists per game and moved past Roy Flynn into sixth place on the program's career list with 338.
  • Davis, who earned all-tournament team honors this past weekend in the 2K Classic sub-regional, leads the Highlanders and is 11th in the conference with 14.6 points per game.
  • YaYa Anderson tied Whit Holcomb-Faye for seventh in program history with 193 career 3-pointers. He is now 23 points away from reaching the 1,000 mark.
  • Cameron Jones leads RU with 10 3-pointers on the season and is second in scoring at 10.6 per contest.

SCOUTING PENN STATE
  • Record: 2-1
  • Penn State is coming off of its first loss, a 78-52 decision at Duquesne last Friday. The Nittany Lions opened the season with home victories over VMI (62-50) and DePaul (68-62)
  • Senior forward Brandon Taylor leads the team with 16.3 points per game and is shooting 47 percent from the field, including 6 of 13 from 3-point range.
  • Sophmore guard Shep Garner has averaged 14.3 points per game and made 9 of 13 from long range. He also leads the team in assists with six and steals with eight in the three games.
  • Sophomore forward Payton Banks is also averaging in double figures with 11.3 points per game.
  • Taylor, Garner and Banks have combined for 19 of the team's 20 made 3-pointers.
  • As a team, Penn State is scoring 60.7 points a game, while giving up 63.3 per contest. The Nittany Lions are shooting 37 percent from the field. They have been outrebounded by 16, but are averaging just 11 turnovers per game.

UP NEXT
  • Radford gets a well-deserved break for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action Monday, Nov. 30 against James Madison inside the Dedmon Center.
  • The game is the first of three home contests in a 10-day period.
