RADFORD TRAVELS TO VIRGINIA TECH MONDAY FOR NEW RIVER VALLEY SHOWDOWN



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford looks to collect its first road win on the season and first win over the Hokies since 2006.
  • Series: Virginia Tech leads, 24-9
  • Last meeting: Virginia Tech 73, Radford 60 (Dec. 21, 2014)
  • In last year's matchup, Jayda Worthy collected a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Aisha Foy led the Highlanders with 14 points off the bench. The Hokies were led by a 22-point effort from Rachel Camp and a 21-point performance from Vanessa Panousis.
  • Radford's last win versus an ACC opponent came on Dec. 16, 2007 in a 52-44 win at Wake Forest.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 4-5
  • Radford is coming off its fifth road loss of the season in a 79-70 non-conference matchup at Wofford on Dec. 18.
  • In the loss, Aisha Foy dialed up a career-high 26 points on 9 of 16 shooting, including four 3-pointers.
  • Following Foy, Janayla White finished with 14 points and Lydia Rivers set a season high with 11 points.
  • With her second 20-point performance on the season, Foy ranks sixth in the Big South in scoring, averaging 14.1 ppg.
  • Gaby Gilmore is Radford's top perimeter defender ranking third in the Big South in steals (22) and in steals per game (2.4).
  • Gilmore dished out a career-high six assists in the loss to Wofford. Radford leads the Big South with 14.3 apg.
  • Radford is one of the top rebounding teams in the Big South, ranking fourth with 42.0 rpg.
  • Individually, the Highlanders have three of the best rebounders in the conference. Janayla White ranks fourth (8.1 rpg), Jayda Worthy ranks sixth (7.4 rpg) and Lydia Rivers ranks eighth (7.2 rpg).
  • The Highlanders have shot over 40 percent in seven contests on the season, ranking second in the Big South with a 43.7 field goal percentage.
  • RU is 3-2 on the season when outshooting opponents.
  • Radford and Virginia Tech have two common opponents in George Mason and Wofford. The Highlanders defeated George Mason (66-63, OT) on Nov. 13, before dropping a 79-70 decision to Wofford on Dec. 18. The Hokies won both decisions versus George Mason (80-63) on Nov. 15 and Wofford (73-42) on Nov. 25.
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
  • Record: 10-1
  • Virginia Tech is fresh off its eighth win in a row with a 59-42 victory over Mount St. Mary's in non-conference play on Dec. 19.
  • In the victory, Hannah Young made five 3-pointers for a game-high 15 points as the Hokies went 9 for 23 from 3-point land.
  • The Hokies only loss on the season came at the hands of Georgetown in a 73-56 loss on Nov. 18
  • Virginia Tech collected one of its most impressive wins in program history on Dec. 6 as the Hokies knocked off then-No. 8 Tennessee, 57-43, in Knoxville.
  • The Hokie offense is paced by Vanessa Panousis (12.6 ppg) and Hannah Young (11.3 ppg).
  • Virginia Tech's leading rebounder is Regan Magarity, averaging 6.6 rpg.
  • Virginia Tech is one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the ACC and NCAA. The Hokies rank second in the ACC and 18th in NCAA with a 38.3 percentage.
  • Young (45.9 percent) and Panousis (40.9 percent) lead the way in 3-point shooting. The duo ranks fifth and sixth, respectively, in the ACC.
  • The Hokies sport one of the best defenses in the nation, ranking fourth nationally, allowing only 48.3 ppg.
  • Opponents are only shooting 32.2 percent from the floor versus the Hokies' defense, ranking seventh nationally.
  • The Hokies have outscored opponents, 558-356, inside Cassell Coliseum.
