RADFORD RETURNS TO BIG SOUTH PLAY VERSUS COASTAL CAROLINA



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford will look to earn its first Big South win of the 2015-16 season and first home win over Coastal Carolina since Jan. 17, 2013.
  • Series: Radford leads, 42-19.
  • Last meeting: Radford 52, Coastal Carolina 43 (Feb. 5, 2015)
  • In the last matchup, Jordynn Gaymon led Radford with a double-double off the bench, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Aisha Foy followed with 12 points, while Jayda Worthy grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
  • The Highlanders are 25-6 versus Coastal Carolina inside the Dedmon Center. The Chanticleers have taken the last two matchups in the NRV.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 4-6, 0-1 Big South
  • Radford looks to bounce back from a heart-breaking 47-40 loss to New River Valley foe Virginia Tech on Dec. 21.
  • In the loss, Jayda Worthy poured in a team-high 11 points on 5 of 9 shooting. Aisha Foy followed with 10 points, while Lydia Rivers grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds.
  • For her efforts from Dec. 14-22, Rivers was awarded The Crons Brand Big South Freshman of the Week. Rivers averaged 8.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while connecting on 46.7 percent (7-15) of her shots.
  • The Highlanders' offense ranks third in the Big South, averaging 65.8 ppg, while posting the third-best defense in the conference at 58.7 ppg.
  • With a 43.4 field-goal percentage, Radford leads the Big South, while shooting over 40 percent seven times on the year.
  • The offense is paced by Foy's 13.7 ppg, which ranks seventh in the Big South.
  • While playing with a short bench, Foy has stepped up in minutes played, ranking third in the Big South with 36.5 minutes played per contest.
  • The RU defense can contribute its success to blocked shots. The Highlanders have blocked 50 shots on the season, ranking second in the Big South.
  • Janayla White blocked a career-high-tying four shots in the loss to Virginia Tech as Radford finished the contest with seven blocks. White ranks fifth in the Big South with 17 blocks.
  • Radford is the only team in the Big South that sports three players inside the Top 10 in rebounding.
  • Janayla White ranks fifth (7.9 rpg), Lydia Rivers ranks sixth (7.7 rpg) and Jayda Worthy ranks eighth (7.1 rpg).
 
SCOUTING COASTAL CAROLINA
  • Record: 5-6, 0-2 Big South
  • Last time out, the Chanticleers defeated Wofford, 83-69, in non-conference action on Dec. 21. Coastal Carolina shot 43.3 percent from the floor, while going 9 for 24 from 3-point land.
  • In the victory, Nicole Isaacs led the way with a game-high 18 points. Ced Gibson followed with 14 points, eight assists and five rebounds.
  • Coastal Carolina averages 71.5 ppg, ranking second in the Big South, while putting up 70 or more points in six contests on the year.
  • Leading the high-scoring offense is Nicole Isaacs, who averages 11.8 ppg. Rachael Gregory averages 11.3 ppg off the bench.
  • The Chanticleers lead the Big South in 3-point shooting with a 34.9 percentage, going 67 for 192 from behind the arc.
  • Isaacs leads the conference with a 44.3 percentage, making 2.5 3-pointers per contest. The senior went 9 for 16 from 3-point land in an 83-70 win over Campbell on Dec. 1.
  • Coastal Carolina shares the rock, tallying 156 assists for 14.2 per game, leading the conference in both categories.
  • Ced Gibson and Jas Adams rank fifth in the Big South in assists per game, averaging 3.2 dimes each.
  • The Chanticleers put pressure on opposing offenses as they have forced 251 turnovers on the season. They lead the Big South with 126 steals.
  • In two Big South contests on the season, the Chanticleers have been outscored 146-122.
