RADFORD HOSTS LIBERTY FOR IN-STATE BIG SOUTH MATCHUP



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford will look to collect its first Big South win versus Liberty since Jan. 17, 2011 when the two teams collide Saturday at 2 p.m. inside the Dedmon Center.
  • Series: Liberty leads, 39-24
  • Last meeting: Liberty 75, Radford 39 (Feb. 2, 2015)
  • In the last matchup, Liberty placed three in double figures: Sadalia Ellis (14), Mickayla Sanders (13) and Ashley Rininger (12). Brittany Allen's eight points off the bench led Radford in that contest.
  • The Flames have not lost inside the Dedmon Center since March 3, 2007.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 5-6, 1-1 Big South
  • Radford grabbed its first Big South win of the season and extended its home winning streak to 13 straight with a 61-45 win over Coastal Carolina, Tuesday night.
  • In the win, Gaby Gilmore finished with a career-high 19 points on 9 of 15 shooting. Her nine made field goals were also a career high.
  • Jayda Worthy finished with 15 points and has now scored double digits in eight contests.
  • With a 6 for 10 effort from the floor, Worthy now leads the Big South in field-goal percentage, making 50.5 percent of her shots.
  • Janayla White connects on 57.4 percent of her shots, but she does not meet the minimum field goals made per game to be listed in the conference rankings.
  • Radford leads the Big South with a 43.8 field-goal percentage.
  • The Highlanders' defense continues to be one of the best in the Big South, ranking second, allowing only 57.5 points per game.
  • In two Big South games, RU is dominating the glass, averaging 43.5 rpg. White leads the conference with 10.5 rpg in Big South action and Lydia Rivers follows with 9.5.
  • Opposing teams have learned to stay out of the paint on RU, the Highlanders lead the Big South with 5.2 bpg. They have tallied 57 blocks on the season.
  • In the win over Coastal, Rivers finished with nine rebounds, seven on the defensive glass. She leads the Big South in defensive rebounds per game with 5.9.
  • Radford is one of the most unselfish teams in the Big South, leading the conference with 13.6 apg.
  • In all, RU leads the league in four different categories and ranks among the top three in 13 different categories.
  • The Highlanders are a force in the paint, outscoring opponents, 388-252, on the season.
  • Radford, which is 5-0 at home this season, averages 76.4 ppg inside the Dedmon Center. On the flip side, the Highlanders only allow 50.2 ppg.
 
SCOUTING LIBERTY
  • Record: 5-7, 2-1 Big South
  • Last time out, the Flames defeated Campbell, 62-52, on Tuesday for their second conference win of the season.
  • In the victory, Catherine Kearney led Liberty with a 22-point effort on 9 of 12 shooting. Kearney also pulled down 10 rebounds. Sadalia Ellis narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds.
  • The Liberty offense averages 60.7 ppg, while allowing 66.4 ppg, ranking eighth in both categories in the Big South.
  • Senior forward Ashley Rininger, who has missed the past two games with a knee injury, ranks seventh in the conference with 13.3 ppg. Ellis ranks 17th with 11 ppg.
  • Rininger follows Radford's Jayda Worthy in field-goal percentage, ranking second with a 49.6 percentage.
  • The Flames sport one of the best rebounders in the Big South in Katelyn Adams. The redshirt senior ranks third with 8.5 rpg.
  • Rininger has grabbed 864 career rebounds, ranking 16th in Big South history. She needs 46 to enter the league's all-time Top-10.
  • Liberty has grabbed 511 rebounds, averaging 42.6 per contest, good enough for second in the Big South.
  • Pressure can get to the Flames. They have turned the ball over a league-leading 245 times, while owning a -7.83 turnover margin.
  • The Flames have outrebounded opponents, 511-432.
  • Liberty and Radford have one common non-conference opponent in NC State. The Flames fell to the Wolfpack, 61-53, on Nov. 20 at home. Radford dropped a 67-52 road contest on Nov. 17.
