RADFORD HOSTS NEW RIVER VALLEY SHOWDOWN WITH HOKIES WEDNESDAY

SETTING THE STAGE
  • For the first time in program history, the Radford men's basketball team will host New River Valley rival Virginia Tech on Wednesday night.
  • Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside a now-sold out Dedmon Center, with a standing room-only crowd expected.
  • It will be the Highlanders' first home sellout since hosting the championship game of the 2009 Big South Tournament.
  • The game, which is the first against an ACC opponent in Dedmon history, has been declared a Red Out, with all fans encouraged to wear their Radford red.
  • Series: Virginia Tech leads, 6-2
  • Last meeting: Radford 68, Virginia Tech 66 (Dec. 7, 2014)
  • Radford looks for its second straight win over the Hokies after rallying for a victory last year in Blacksburg, where each of the eight previous matchups were held.
  • Radford's all-time leading scorer, Doug Day, will have his No. 20 jersey honored during a special pregame ceremony.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 5-4
  • Radford is 4-1 in its last five games against teams from major conferences, dating back to the victory over Oregon State in the 2014 CBI.
  • Rashun Davis became the 28th Highlander to score 1,000 career points in Sunday's game against Coastal Carolina.
  • Teammate YaYa Anderson looks to quickly join him as he enters tonight's game just one point away from the milestone.
  • Davis maintains his hold on the Big South assists lead at 5.6 per game. He is now 11 away from tying R.J. Price for fifth on the program's all-time list.
  • Davis currently ranks ninth in the conference in scoring at 14.8 points per game.
  • Cameron Jones posted his third 20-plus point performance of the season against Coastal, while equaling a career high with eight rebounds. He is averaging 12.4 points per game and is seventh in the Big South in 3-point percentage at .415, having connected on 22 of 53 attempts.
  • The Highlanders rank first in the conference with 13.7 offensive rebounds per game, and Ed Polite, Jr. entered Tuesday's action tied for the lead individually with a total of 29.
  • Polite, Jr. is also third on the team in scoring at 9.9 ppg and leads the way with 5.6 rebounds per game and a total of 10 blocks.
  • Brandon Holcomb needs one block to tie for third place in RU history, equaling Eric Parker's 124.
  • Radford's bench has outscored the opposition's in six of the last seven games. The reserves are averaging 28.1 points per contest.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
  • Record: 5-3
  • Virginia Tech will be playing its first true road game of the season, having hosted six games in Blacksburg along with a pair of neutral-site contests.
  • The Hokies are coming off an 80-45 rout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Saturday.
  • Redshirt junior Zach LeDay, a transfer from USF, leads the team with 16.1 points and his 9.4 rebounds per contest rank seventh in the ACC.
  • LeDay, a 6-foot-7 forward, has also grabbed 34 offensive rebounds – third most in the conference – while posting five double-doubles and twice scoring a career-high 26 points.
  • Freshman Chris Clarke ranks third on the team with 11.8 points and 8.5 rebounds.
  • As a team, Virginia Tech averages 44.4 rebounds per game and is outrebounding its opponents by 11.5 per contest.
  • The Hokies lead the nation in free-throw attempts with 34.1 per game. They have shot a total of 273, compared to just 108 for their opponents.
  • Seth Allen has made only one start, but ranks second on the team with 14.1 points a game, while Justin Bibbs averages 11.5 per outing and has made 19 of his 29 3-point attempts. Allen and Bibbs have combined for 30 of the team's 38 treys.
