RADFORD BATTLES XAVIER FOR FIRST TIME WEDNESDAY



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford prepares to play Xavier for the first time in women's basketball Wednesday at 7 p.m. from the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
  • Series: First meeting
  • The Highlanders are looking to snap a six-game skid on the road. Their last win away from the Dedmon Center was at Charleston Southern on Feb. 14, 2015.
  • RU is playing its fifth game in program history against a current BIG EAST member. Radford is 1-3 in those games.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 3-3
  • Radford is coming off a 71-66 loss at High Point on Dec. 5 in its Big South opener.
  • Aisha Foy dialed up a season-high 20 points on 5 of 6 shooting from 3-point land to lead the Highlanders in the setback.
  • In road games, Foy is averaging 14.0 ppg, while making 7 of 12 from 3-point land. 
  • Janayla White dominated the boards en route to 12 rebounds last time out, eight of which were on the offensive end, to go along with her 12 points. The double-double was the fifth of her career.
  • Foy stands in 10th place among the Big South's scoring leaders at 12.8 ppg. She has reached double figures in four of RU's six contests on the season.
  • Following Foy in the scoring column is White, who ranks 12th among Big South players with 12.0 ppg.
  • Jayda Worthy remains the conference leader in field-goal percentage (.556) and ranks third in rebounding (8.8 rpg).
  • In the loss to HPU, Lydia Rivers narrowly missed the first double-double of her freshman campaign, finishing with season highs in points (nine) and rebounds (10).
  • Heading into their fourth road contest of the season, the Highlanders are averaging 57.0 ppg away from the Dedmon Center. Free throws have plagued Radford in those three games, only managing 54.2 percent from the charity stripe.
 
SCOUTING XAVIER
  • Record: 5-2
  • The Musketeers had their four-game winning streak snapped on Dec. 6 in a 62-53 non-conference loss to Middle Tennessee State.
  • Xavier is 5-1 inside the Cintas Center on the season, outscoring opponents 374-304.
  • Ranking ninth in scoring offense in the BIG EAST with 61.1 ppg, the Musketeers make it up on the defensive end, holding opponents to 56.6 ppg.
  • A dominant rebounding team, Xavier has outrebounded opponents, 300-252. They are averaging 42.9 rpg, which rank second in the BIG EAST.
  • Raeshaun Gaffney's 11.3 ppg lead the Musketeers. Following Gaffney, Briana Glover (9.9 ppg) and Aliyah Zantt (9.4 ppg) round out Xavier's top scorers.
  • In the rebounding category, Leah Schaefer is tied for 11th in the BIG EAST with 6.0 rpg.
  • Marquia Turner ranks third in the BIG EAST with a 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio. Turner leads Xavier with 24 assists and only nine turnovers.
  • Xavier's Tierra Floyd and Radford's Jayda Worthy were high school teammates at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio. The duo led Notre Dame to three consecutive OHSAA Division I Final Four appearances from 2012-14.
  • In their last four non-conference matchups with opponents from Virginia, the Musketeers are 2-2. Their last loss came in a 67-64 loss to Big South member Longwood on Nov. 21, 2013.
