RADFORD, Va. ---- The Radford softball team heads south to the Upstate Classic in Spartanburg, S.C., from Friday, Feb. 13, to Sunday, Feb. 15. The Highlanders open tournament play with a doubleheader at Furman in Greenville, S.C., at 2 p.m. on Friday.

"We are looking forward to our next opportunity to compete," said head coach Maggie White. "As we work through the early days of the season, we are excited to face some great competition this weekend in South Carolina that will give us a chance to become stronger as a team."

Following the doubleheader at Furman, Radford matches up against Western Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Catamounts opened their season on Wednesday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to the ACC's North Carolina.

The Red and White meet George Mason on Saturday for a 5 p.m. first pitch. The Patriots come into this weekend 0-5, with losses to UCF and Boston College. Radford is 12-7 all-time against George Mason, most recently downing the Patriots 1-0 on Feb. 26, 2005.

The Highlanders come into the weekend with a combined 19-10 mark against their opponents at the Upstate Classic. Including its 12-7 record against George Mason, Radford holds a 6-2 advantage over Furman, with its last loss to the Paladins coming in 1993. Western Carolina and the Highlanders split a pair the only time they met back in 2007.

This weekend's schedule included a road contest against USC Upstate, but due to weather concerns, the five coaches agreed to alter games and times to its current state. An updated schedule can be found on www.RadfordAthletics.com.

The Red and White opened the 2015 season at the Elon Tournament last weekend. Radford fell to USC Upstate, who was receiving votes in the NFCA poll, 9-1, and then dropped a pair of contests to Elon, including a 6-5 extra inning effort.
