RADFORD, Va. ---- After setting several season bests and a new facility record, the Radford track and field team is back in action at the Virginia Tech Challenge at the Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg, Va., from Feb. 20-21.
Competition starts Friday with the triple jump, pole vault and 600-meter dash at 5 p.m. The opening day wraps up with the 200-meter dash at 8:05. Saturday's slate kicks off with the women's high jump at 11 a.m. Running events on day two commence at 1 p.m. with the 5,000-meter run and conclude with the distance medley relay at 4:05 p.m.
This is the third trip the Highlanders make to the Rector Fieldhouse this indoor season. The Red and White most recently made back-to-back trips to Huntington, W.Va., highlighted by Teresa Williamson's Jeff Small Track record 4:52.59 in the mile. Williamson tallied a second win last weekend in the 3,000-meter run with a Radford 2015 best 10:11.34.
Katie Hickey leads the Big South Conference in the 800-meter run with one invitational remaining on the schedule before the league championships with a 2:14.87, turned in at the Marshall Invite last weekend.
Shania Williams, the Big South's indoor field athlete of the week on Dec. 11, came in fourth at the Marshall Invite last Friday night in the weight throw with a new personal best 15.17m (49-09.25). Williams followed the performance with a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 13.15m (43-01.75).
