MIDWEEK GAME • Wednesday, March 18 • 5:30 p.m. • LIVE STATS
RU Austin Ross (1-0, 3.12) vs. VT TBA
After sweeping a doubleheader Sunday to close out a series win over Marist, the Radford baseball team travels to Blacksburg on Wednesday to face its New River rival, Virginia Tech. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. at English Field. The Hokies had their three-game winning streak snapped Tuesday against another Big South foe, Liberty.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech enjoyed a weekend sweep over its nationally-ranked arch rival, Virginia, but then could not maintain the momentum Tuesday night in a home loss to Liberty. The loss evened the Hokies' record at 10-10 on the season. Tech has won seven straight over RU.
THE HIGHLANDERS
Radford rallied for a pair of wins Sunday in nail-biting fashion. RU scored two runs in the eighth in the opening game of the day to force extra innings. Danny Hrbek provided the walkoff RBI single in the 10th. In the nightcap, again in the eighth inning, the Highlanders scored three runs to post a 3-1 victory. Aaron Scoville's two-run, pinch-hit double proved the difference. Ryan Meisinger earned a relief appearance victory in game one and a save in the final game of the series.
Josh Gardiner ranks third in the Big South with a .400 batting average.
