RADFORD, Va. ---- The Radford track and field team continues its outdoor season at the Virginia Cup in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, March 21. The Highlanders will go toe-to-toe with James Madison, Liberty, Norfolk State and Virginia.
Competition from Lannigan Field begins on Saturday at noon with the hammer, discus and javelin. Running events begin at 2:15 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay. The day concludes with the 4x400-meter relay at approximately 4:55 p.m.
After competing in just field events and sprints last weekend at the USF Invite in Tampa, Fla., Radford will be participating in 17 different events on Saturday. Emmalene Hale, Naihla Rose-Delia, Ashlen Veatch and Shania Williams will kick the meet off in the throws at noon, as Monica Mallory and Jessica Shelton will compete in the javelin. The 4x100-meter relay team of Jamiecka Baker, Reanna Hamm, Lora Wilson and Shantel Jones will lead off the running events for the Highlanders.
Indoor All-Big South performers Katie Hickey and Teresa Williamson will make their outdoor debuts at the Virginia Cup. Hickey will compete in the 800-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay. Williamson is slated to run in the 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters and 4x400-meter relay. Hickey took second at the Big South Indoor Championships with a time of 2:14.98, as Williamson won the event in 2:14.66 and took second in the mile with a 4:55.18.
Williams is coming off a second-place finish in the shot put at the USF Invite with a mark of 13.47m (44-02.50). Naihla Rose-Delia also found herself in the top five of the event, recording a distance of 12.60m (41-04.25) to take fourth place and set a new outdoor personal best. Veatch, who did compete last weekend, will compete in the hammer after taking third in the weight throw at the Big South Indoor Conference Championships.
