RADFORD, Va. ---- The Radford softball team makes a quick turn around after playing a two-game series at Presbyterian last weekenfd to travel to Elon, N.C., to face off against Elon for the third time this season. First pitch on Tuesday from the Hunt Softball Park is scheduled for 2 p.m.

"We are anxious to take the field again," said head Coach Maggie White. "We are familiar with Elon, and they have a strong ball club. We look to maintain consistency in our performance offensively, defensively and in the circle."

The Highlanders (6-15, 2-3 BSC) are coming off a tough conference weekend, dropping two contests to Presbyterian in Clinton, S.C. Saturday's series finale was a 10-inning thriller that ended with two runs posted by the Blue Hose in the bottom of the frame. Becky Mantel was a bright spot for Radford over the weekend, going .714 from the plate with her first double of the season. Mantel has five extra base hits and 10 RBI this year.

Tiffany Brown saw the most action in the circle for the Highlanders last weekend, logging 6.0 innings of work. Brown gave up three earned runs on six hits. She came in as relief in both outings at Presbyterian. Brown had a team-best four strikeouts to bring her season tally to 30, 11 clear of the next highest on the team.

Maggie Rowe continued to be a tough out at the plate in her freshman campaign, recording a .333 average against the Blue Hose. Rowe's weekend was highlighted by a two-run homer in the fourth inning of game two to give Radford its first lead of the weekend against Presbyterian. It was her first long ball since Feb. 14 when she hit a grand slam against George Mason. Rowe leads the team with a .370 batting average and has six extra base hits this season.

March 21's series finale was Radford's longest game at 10 innings since playing 11 innings against Towson on March 8, 2014. The Highlanders downed Towson, 2-1. It was Radford's third extra inning contest of the season. The Highlanders are 0-3 when going into extras and have scored just two runs past the seventh inning.

Tuesday's matchup at Elon (18-8, 1-2 CAA) will be the third meeting between the Phoenix and Highlanders in Elon, N.C., this season. Elon has won the previous two matchups, 6-5, 6-1, from Feb. 7-8. Radford is 19-9 all-time against Elon, dating back 1996. The Phoenix are currently on a five-game winning streak against Radford though, dating back to 2011. Despite dropping both contests to Elon this season, Radford has out hit the Phoenix 18-16 in the two games.
