RADFORD, Va. ---- Radford continues its seven-game home stretch with a Big South Conference series against Winthrop. The Highlanders look to bounce back after Thursday's doubleheader and capture its third league series.Â
Â
Becky Mantel led Radford on Thursday night against Appalachian State, going 3-5 in the doubleheader highlighted by her fifth double of the season. Mantel has 10 extra base hits on the year and is the team's best bat with a .337 average.
Â
In her lone official at bat in the two-game series, Whitney Davis cranked her team-best seventh home run of the year. Davis connected on a pitch, sending it over the wall in left-centerfield and into the construction zone of the new indoor hitting facility.Â
Â
Mackenzie Blackwell snapped her 12-game on base streak on Thursday, failing to find a way on in game one. Blackwell batted .313 over the stretch with 10 hits and three home runs. The only Highlander to have a higher on base percentage in the 12-game period was Mantel, who was on an 18-game on base streak that was snapped on April 12.
Â
Saturday's contest will be the Highlanders "Pink" game to raise awareness. We will be using #NFCAStrikeOut and have donation jars at the stadium to help fund research for finding the cure.
