
WILLIAMSON SETS CAREER BEST AT UVA AS HIGHLANDERS RACE TO SEVERAL TOP 10'S AT ELON

RADFORD, Va. ---- Teresa Williamson set another personal best at the Virginia Challenge as Radford won two events at the Phoenix Invite on Saturday night. The Highlanders recorded several top-10 finishes in their split weekend.

Williamson set her second personal-best of the weekend, this time in the 1,500-meter run. Running against some the nation's top competition at the Virginia Challenge, Williamson turned in a 4:30.40 to take second in her heat. Her previous best was a 4:31.65 ran on April 12, 2014, at the Mason Spring Invite.

The majority of Radford's team was competing at the Phoenix Invite at Elon. The Highlanders' best performance of the day came in the 800-meter run as Malina Richardson and Danyelle McDaniel went one-two in the race. Richardson ran a 2:17.07 as McDaniel clocked a 2:17.28. Chandra Goodson and Denaya Wolterding also placed in the top 10 of the event, running a 2:22.24 and 2:23.28, respectively, to come in fifth and sixth.

Ashlen Veatch had Radford's second first-place performance of the day in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 51.62 meters to win the event by more than five meters. Emmalene Hale came in third with a 45.97-meter effort as Naihla Rose-Delia had a mark of 44.57 meters.

Shantel Jones notched a top-10 finish in the 100 meters with a 12.94 in the finals. Jones clocked a 12.66 in the preliminaries. Lora Wilson ran a 12.94 in the prelims.

Ranna Hamm led the Highlanders in the 200-meter dash with a 10th-place performance. Hamm ran a 26.64. Jessica Shelton crossed the line in 26.86 as Wilson ran a 27.54.

In the 400 meters, Callie O'Connell finished in 1:00.47, with Ckareekeea Branch following in 1:03.51.

Madeline Thomas took second in the 5,000-meter run, coming across in a time of 18:51.38. Emily Marshall also placed in the top five, turning in a fourth-place performance with a 20:30.28.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Shelton ran a 14.34 to earn a spot in the finals. She rounded out the top five in the finals with a 14.51. Monica Mallory ran a 16.93 in the prelims.

Shelton, Jones, Hamm and McDaniel combined for a 48.82 in the 4x100-meter relay to take third. The Highlanders took third in the 4x400-meter relay as well with the team of Branch, Richardson, Wolterding and Goodson.

Mallory and Katy Harriman took ninth and 10th in the high jump with marks of 1.51 meters. Mallory finished just ahead with less misses at the height.

Morgan Harris recorded a long of 5.10 meters in the long jump today. Her best came on her first attempt of the day. In the triple jump, Jamiecka Baker had a leap of 11.05 meters to take fifth.

Courtney Rice and Courtney Burton raced their way to a third and fourth place finish, respectively, in the steeplechase. Rice ran a 12:00.15 as Burton clocked a 12:09.59.

Rose-Delia earned second-place honors in the shot put, notching a distance of 12.67 meters on her sixth and final attempt of the day. Jazmine Banks took sixth in the event with a heave of 12.05 meters.

In the discus, Hale paced Radford with a mark of 38.15 meters. Her day's best was came on the final throw, beating out her second-best mark by four meters. Rose-Delia finished in seventh with a distance of 35.78 meters.

Cara Myrtle took seventh in her lone event of the day, running a 1:05.52 in the 400-meter hurdles.
