LANG’S FIRST CAREER HOMER SNAPS SOFTBALL’S SKID

SHELBY, N.C. ---- Knotted at 8-8 heading to the top of the seventh inning, Alex Lang clinched the series finale on Saturday night with a home run sent over the left field wall. The Highlanders dropped part one of the doubleheader, 5-0.

"Our pitchers battled every inning to keep us in a position to win the game," said head coach Maggie White. "We had some huge hits with runners on, and we fought until the end."

Whitney Davis' ninth home run of the year came in the second inning of game two, clearing the bases for the Red and White's third grand slam of the year. Davis finished the day with a team-best three hits, along with Megan Honaker. Honaker paced the team in both hits and runs with six and four, respectively, over the three-game series. Lang, in as a pinch hitter, notched the first homer of her career to put Radford (12-31, 7-12 BSC) ahead by one in the seventh inning of game two. The Red and White had three home runs in total in the second part of the doubleheader. Becky Mantel had the game's first, clearing the fence in the game's first at bat for her sixth of the year.

Kelsey Weddle started in the circle in game one of the doubleheader, giving up one earned run and six hits in five innings of work. Weddle struck out two batters in the 58-pitch effort. Tiffany Brown and Taylor Asimakopoulos both made appearances in the first outing, combining for one inning and two strikeouts.

Asimakopoulos threw 3.2 innings in the start of game two, giving up six runs on 11 hits. Brown was awarded the win in the campaign with 3.1 innings of relief work, limiting the Runnin' Bulldogs (14-43, 6-18 BSC) to just four hits and a pair of runs.
