HIGHLANDERS SET FOR FINAL TUNE UP AT TENNESSEE BEFORE BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

RADFORD, Va. ---- Coming off hosting the Highlander Invite, the Radford track and field team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Tennessee Challenge on Saturday, May 2, at the Tom Black Track. This weekend's meet is the Highlanders' final outing on the schedule before the Big South Championships from May 14-16.
Saturday's events kick off at 9 a.m. with the hammer throw. The first running event will go off at 12:30 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay. Field events wrap up in the triple jump and discus at 2:30, while action on the track concludes at approximately 4:45 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay.
Last week at the Highlander Invite, Ashlen Veatch won the hammer throw with a mark of 52.69m. Nailha Rose-Delia finished in seventh place with a heave of 45.91m. Jazmine Banks recorded a throw of 40.42m, while Emmalane Hale notched a distance of 40.20m.
Reanna Hamm took the Highlanders second first-place finish of the day, winning the 200-meter run with a 26.00. Lora Wilson clocked a 26.77 to finish in third as Monica Mallory took fourth in 27.73.
Cara Myrtle paced Radford in the 400-meter hurdles, stopping the clock at 1:04.70 to take second overall. Myrtle's performance set a new personal best in the effort, beating out her time of 1:05.14 in 2014.
In the 100-meter high hurdles, Jessica Shelton tallied the second-fastest time in the event, turning in a 15.05. Monica Mallory took the eighth-spot, clocking a 16.70.
Shantel Jones and Wilson qualified for the final in the 100-meter dash. During the prelims, Jones crossed the line at 12.96, while Wilson crossed at 13.17. In the 100m finals Jones took second with a time of 13.00. Wilson finished fourth with a time of 13.31.
Jamiecka Baker took second in the triple jump recording a leap of 10.91m.
At the Penn Relays, the team of Teresa Williamson, Katie Hickey, Danyelle McDaniel and Malina Richardson combined for a time of 9:07.73. Williamson led the Highlanders with a 2:13.46 split, as Hickey turned in a 2:15.90. McDaniel and Richardson clocked a 2:18.51 and 2:19.86 split, respectively.
