HOW IT HAPPENED
  • On the strength of two doubles-doubles and superb defense, Radford was able to secure a win over a Pac-12 program for the second season in a row.
  • RU was very close to making this contest a sweep as the Highlanders had set point (24-23) in the second stanza.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Maddie Palmer torched the floor for a career-high 24 kills to go along with 12 digs; it was her fourth career double-double.
  • Megan Short, a redshirt senior right side hitter, cranked 14 kills at a .444 clip.
  • Junior libero Kelby Jackson supplied a career-high 28 digs; she was one of five Highlanders to record double-digit digs.
  • Freshman setter Haley Kleespies dished out 49 assists in her Highlander debut, in addition to her 10 digs.
  • Freshman Taylor Bouras accounted for four of Radford's six blocks.
  • Kyra Holt and Hailey Bethune posted 21 and 11 kills, respectively, to lead Washington State.
  • Haley MacDonald passed out 43 assists, while Kate Sommer contributed 28 digs.

QUOTABLE
  • "Being the first match of the season, we didn't know what to expect from either team. Both teams are really young. We have the most freshmen of any team in the tournament, and I basically said in pregame that 'we can't feel sorry for ourselves. We've got to go out there and do what we have to do.' It was a total team effort. I thought Haley [Kleespies] did a very good job running the offense tonight. She went through some highs and some lows, but that's to be expected from a freshman. All in all, I thought she handled it well. I am obviously pleased with the victory, but we've got a lot of work to do. Our ultimate goal is to be ready for Big South play in about four or five weeks. We'll keep hitting the court and try to get better every day." ~ Radford head coach Marci Jenkins
