HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maddie Palmer notched her second straight (fifth career) double-double by unleashing 20 kills and tallying 10 digs to spark Radford to a 3-1 triumph over LIU Brooklyn.
  • Palmer, who cranked a career-high 24 kills against Washington State on Friday, posted her second straight 20-kill match of the season. Her highest total as a freshman was 17.
  • For the second consecutive day, Megan Short pounded 14 kills at a .478 clip. She added a match-high five blocks.
  • Kaylor Nash (11) and Savanna Burton (10) joined Palmer as the only Highlanders to record double-digit digs.
  • Haley Kleespies handed out 43 assists for her second straight 40-assist effort.
  • Radford's defense was once again up to the challenge, holding LIU to .062 on the attack.
  • Tamara Ignjic fired nine kills to pace the Blackbirds, offensively.
  • Adriana Viñas Joy contributed a match-high 16 digs for LIU.

QUOTABLE
  • "The serve and pass game was what won us this match. We didn't serve or pass it well in set two, and we got ourselves in trouble, but all the other three that we did serve and pass well, we were successful. We were able to hold them to a .062 hitting percentage, which meant that we were playing some pretty good defense. We outblocked them by one, which was good too, but we also played good defense behind it. I didn't think it was our best performance but a win is a win, and we'll take it." ~ Radford head coach Marci Jenkins

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • LIU Brooklyn entered the 2015 season as the unanimous choice to repeat as the Northeast Conference champion. The Blackbirds have won their league three straight years and nine of the last 11.
  • With the win, Radford notches a win over a defending conference champion for the second year in a row. The Highlanders knocked off Morehead State (Ohio Valley Conference) twice last season on the Eagles' home floor.
  • Radford extended its home winning streak to 14 straight matches.
  • The Highlanders' last loss at home was against Coastal Carolina on Oct. 18, 2013.

UP NEXT
  • RU and Elon will play in the tournament finale at 7 p.m. The Highlanders will be gunning for their first home tournament title since 2009.
  • Radford has not beaten Elon since 2002. The Phoenix has won seven in a row in the series.
