HOW IT HAPPENED
- Leading 2-0 at halftime, the Radford women's soccer team exploded for six second-half goals, including three by freshman Amanda Philip, and rolled to an 8-0 win over Southern Virginia Friday afternoon at Cupp Stadium in its final non-conference game.
- Philip scored consecutive goals for the Highlanders in the 49th, 60th and 65th minutes, the first three goals in her collegiate career.
- Sally Dillinger and Ana Revollo also both had multi-goal games, with two tallies apiece, while Cassidy Ratliff scored her first collegiate goal and added an assist.
- Radford racked up 49 shots in the game, tying the program's Cupp Stadium record, which also was set against Southern Virginia in 2010.
- The Highlanders shut out the Knights for the sixth straight meeting and still have yet to allow a goal in the series.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Philip's hat trick is the first for a Highlander since Sahar Aflaki scored three goals in the 2011 Big South Tournament semifinals.
- The eight-goal output was the most for Radford since a 9-0 win over Southern Virginia in 2012.
- Freshman Jessica Wollman returned to action after missing the previous two games and recorded two assists.
- Jordan Lundin, Britney Kendall and Madison Aguirre each added one assist, the first collegiate for point for Aguirre, a freshman from Las Vegas.
- The two-goal games for Dillinger and Revollo were their first career multi-goal performances.
- It took a while for the scoring to get started - Dillinger's first goal in the 27th minute broke the ice - but the Highlanders poured it on early the second half, finding the net four times in the first 20 minutes.
- The final shot disparity was 49-2 and Radford put 10 of its 20 second-half attempts on frame.
- Katie McCormick played the first half in goal before junior Sydney Chervenic and Maddie Malueg split the second 45 minutes to combine on the Highlanders' third shutout of the season.
QUOTABLE
- "We moved the ball well all day and created a lot of chances. I thought we were smart with the decisions to get better chances, especially in the second half. Overall, I was proud of the way the team played and hopefully this gives us some confidence going into the Big South (schedule). It was good to see people score some goals, but what's coming up is the most important part. " ~ Radford head coach Ben Sohrabi
