RADFORD, Va. – It took holding off a late fourth-quarter charge, but Radford was able to squeak out a 62-59 victory over Campbell Monday night inside the Dedmon Center. The win extends the Highlanders' Big South winning streak to three games.

In the win, RU placed three scorers in double figures, led by Aisha Foy's game-high 23 points. Janayla White collected her second consecutive double-double with 14 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Gaby Gilmore finished with 12 points and a career-high seven assists.

Campbell came out of the gate looking to control the paint, scoring 16 of its 19 first-quarter points in the paint. Amanda Coffer scored 11 of her team-high 18 points in the frame. A Foy layup through traffic pulled the Highlanders within 19-17 at the end of the first stanza.

Building off momentum gained at the end of the first quarter, RU opened the second quarter on an 11-0 run. White caught fire for the Highlanders during the surge, scoring seven points, including five straight. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Jordan Toohey gave RU a 31-21 lead with 3:51 remaining before halftime.

Coming out of the locker room with a 34-27 lead, Foy paced Radford with eight points in the third quarter, extending the Highlanders' lead to 48-33. Leading by 15 points, RU looked to have the game in hand.

After two Lydia Rivers' free throws to begin the final stanza, Radford established its largest lead of the game of 17 points (50-33). However, the Camels went on a 20-7 run over the next eight minutes, cutting their deficit to four points (57-53) with 1:36 remaining in regulation.

RU made key free throws down the stretch before a potential Krystal Mangum game-tying 3-pointer fell short at the buzzer. Mangum scored 12 of her 14 points to fuel Campbell's fourth-quarter rally.

Radford will put its three-game Big South winning streak on the line Saturday, traveling to Longwood for a Commonwealth clash in Farmville, Va. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside Willett Hall.

QUOTABLE
  • "Early in the game, a lot of our offense was fed by our defense. We did a good job pushing the ball and creating points in transition. When Campbell got into foul trouble in the second quarter, we were able to play to some of our strengths. Our second quarter lead was led by our defense getting stops. We have to play to our strengths on offense versus man to man. Campbell doesn't quit. Their kids play with a lot of heart. They did a good job trapping late in the game, which got us rattled. This was a gutsy way to win a ballgame. I thought for three quarters we played well. The last five minutes, I felt like we just tried to hang on instead of using a killer instinct. We relaxed a little too much defensively when we had a lead. It all comes down to discipline and this will be a good lesson for us." ~ Radford head coach, Mike McGuire
