FARMVILLE, Va. – A career-high 23 points from Gaby Gilmore, including 19 in the second half, highlighted Radford's 79-67 win over Longwood, Saturday afternoon inside Willett Hall. The win marks the fourth consecutive triumph for the Highlanders, all coming in Big South play.

The Highlanders got off to a slow start in the opening quarter as Longwood forced nine RU turnovers, scoring five quick points off those miscues to start the game. Radford settled down as Toohey connected on back-to-back three 3-pointers, giving RU an 8-5 lead at the 4:44 mark. The Red and White finished the quarter leading, 12-11.

After Longwood grabbed a 14-12 lead to start the second stanza, RU turned up the heat. The Highlanders answered with a 13-0 run as five straight points by Rivers saw RU take a commanding 25-14 lead with 5:36 remaining in the first half.

Toohey hit four of her five attempts, including two 3-pointers, for 10 points as Radford earned a 32-25 lead at the break.

After a sluggish first half, Longwood opened the second half with seven straight points, knotting the contest at 32. After watching their lead slip away, Gilmore took over the third quarter as the Highlanders embarked on a 16-4 run over a four-minute span. The run featured 11 points by Gilmore, including eight straight, as Radford controlled a comfortable 48-36 lead.

Radford never saw its lead slip below eight points in the fourth quarter as the Highlanders notched their second road win of the season.

RU will have little time to rest before Charleston Southern comes to the Dedmon Center on Tuesday. The Big South clash is set to tip-off at 7 p.m.

QUOTABLE
  • "I thought we started both halves a little sluggish. Once we settled down, I thought we did a better job playing to our strengths and playing together. I have to credit Longwood for a hard-fought game. They are battling injuries like us. This team is still finding ways to win games through injuries and lineups being adjusted. We showed some resiliency in winning four games in a row, which is only going to help our team moving forward. I'm not sure that we have hit our stride yet, which is exciting for me." ~ Radford head coach, Mike McGuire
