POLITE, JR. NAMED BIG SOUTH FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After posting back-to-back double-double performances, Radford forward Ed Polite, Jr. has claimed Big South Conference Freshman of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday.

Polite, Jr. averaged 14.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks, while shooting 64.7 percent (11 of 17) from the field in the Highlanders' two games last week.

During Thursday night's overtime victory over UNC Asheville, Polite, Jr. scored 14 points and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds, with all of the points and 10 of the boards coming after halftime to help Radford rally from an 11-point deficit and post its third overtime win of the season. With the Highlanders trailing by three and under five minutes to play, he scored six straight RU points to keep them within striking distance and then made two of the team's first three baskets in the extra period to help them stay ahead. For the game, he was 5 of 7 from the field and 4 of 5 at the free-throw line, while adding three blocks and two steals.

The Lanham, Md., native followed up with 15 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and two assists against Presbyterian on Saturday. He nearly posted his team-leading fourth double-double of the season in the first half alone, totaling eight points and eight boards in the first 20 minutes, along with two of the blocks.

While remaining the Big South leader in offensive rebounds (66), Polite, Jr. now ranks sixth in the conference with 7.9 rebounds per game in league play. He is also third with 1.6 blocked shots per contest, and has recorded three blocks in four of the last seven games and five times overall.
