HIGHLANDERS CLOSE OUT HOMESTAND ON SATURDAY WITH DAVIS & ELKINS



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford hosts the first of two NCAA Division II foes it will play this season on Saturday, playing host to Davis & Elkins in a 2 p.m. matchup, marking the first meeting in 31 years.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 2-1
  • After only scoring a combined 100 points in the first two games to start the 2016-17 season, Radford's offense exploded for 79 points in a 79-46 home opening win over Tennessee Tech.
  • The 79 points are the sixth most points scored by a Big South team this season.
  • The win also marked the Highlanders first win over an opponent from the Volunteer State since a 73-67 victory over ETSU on Dec. 20, 2007.
  • Ten different Highlanders scored in the win, while eight grabbed at least one rebound.
  • Destinee Walker has scored double-figures in the first three games to start the season.
  • Walker's 16-point effort breaks her career-high mark of 13 set Feb. 23, 2016 at Winthrop. The sophomore finished 5 of 9 from the floor, including two 3-pointers.
  • Averaging 13.3 points per game, Walker ranks sixth in the Big South.
  • Janayla White collected her first start of the 2016-17 season, tallying 16 points to lead the Highlanders in scoring for the 16th time in her career.
  • After pulling down a season-high 12 rebounds last time out, Lydia Rivers now ranks third in the conference with 7.7 boards per game.
  • Rivers career average is 8.0 per game, while leading the Highlanders in rebounds in 16 career games.
  • Radford shot 48.1 percent in the contest, going 26 for 54 from the field, their highest mark since shooting 48.5 percent in an 80-64 win over Longwood on Feb. 20, 2016.
  • After making 23 of 38 attempts from the charity stripe, The Highlanders made 21 of 24 free throw attempts, including 18 of 20 in the second half in the win over Tennessee Tech.
  • Radford's defense is off to another strong start, holding opponents to 52.0 points per game, leading the Big South.
 
SCOUTING DAVIS & ELKINS
  • Record: 4-1
  • Davis & Elkins are coming off a 110-55 win over Bluefield State on Nov. 21. The Senators scored over 30 points in two of the four quarters.
  • Through five games, Davis & Elkins is averaging 83.4 points per game, while opponents are scoring 70.6.
  • The Senators are shooting 45 percent from the floor. Of their 152 made field goals, 63 have come from behind the 3-point line.
  • Stephanie Wooten paces the Senators with 21.8 points per game clip, while Sydney Turner follows with 16.6 points per contest.
  • Turner is shooting a blistering 25 for 50 from the 3-point line. Only three of Turner's made field goals have not been of the 3-point variety.
  • Wooten is 39 of 95 from the floor for a 41.1 field goal percentage.
  • In addition to scoring the rock, Wooten paces the team with 8.2 assists per game, tallying 41 on the season.
  • As a team, the Senators have collected 107 assists, averaging 21.4 per game.
  • Davis & Elkins sports five players averaging five or more points per game.
  • The Senators are counting the contest as an exhibition, their second in a row. Davis & Elkins will travel to Bowling Green on Nov. 30 for their final contest against an NCAA Division I opponent.

UP NEXT
  • Radford returns to action on Dec. 1, traveling to UNC Greensboro for a 7 p.m. contest.
  • The Spartans are 11-7 in the all-time series.
