PALMER NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR RECORD SIXTH TIME

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After helping Radford clinch the 2016 regular-season championship over the weekend, Maddie Palmer collected an unprecedented sixth Big South Volleyball Player of the Week this season, the conference announced on Monday.

Palmer's six honors in 10 weeks are the most in a single campaign by any player in conference volleyball history, bettering the five won by Winthrop's Becca Toor in 2011. The Simpsonville, S.C. native has now earned the league's top weekly award eight times in her career.

Palmer totaled 56 kills, 40 digs and 59 points during the Highlanders' three matches last week, while becoming the third Radford player in rally-scoring history to record at least 1,000 career kills.

The junior posted two more double-doubles and averaged 4.67 kills, 3.33 digs and 4.92 points per set in the three contests. She equaled her career-high with 24 kills against High Point, led the way with 15 kills in Friday's four-set win over Campbell and capped the week with a 17-kill, 15-dig outing in Saturday's victory over Presbyterian, her 17th double-double of the year.

Palmer now has 1,047 kills in her career, including a Big South-best 440 this season, which is currently fourth-most program in rally-scoring history. She will take over third on the list with five more and is 64 away from Rachel Wiechecki's single-season record of 504.

Radford (22-5, 13-2) finishes off its regular-season slate at home Thursday night against Charleston Southern at 7 p.m.
