RADFORD TAKES ON NO. 11 WEST VIRGINIA TUESDAY IN MORGANTOWN



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford plays the last game of its challenging non-conference road schedule Tuesday night, traveling to Morgantown, W. Va., to face 11th-ranked West Virginia at 7 p.m.
  • Series History: It will be the sixth meeting between the teams and the Highlanders' fifth visit to Morgantown. West Virginia has won each of the five previous contests, with the last coming on Dec. 22, 2012, a 72-62 decision in the closest margin of the series.
  • The game will be broadcast by Nexstar, which can be found on four TV stations in West Virginia, with the closest to Radford being WVNS in Bluefield/Beckley.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 4-6
  • Coming off a 20-point, 13-rebound game on Saturday, Ed Polite, Jr. is now averaging a double-double on the season. He leads the team with 10.2 ppg and is first in the Big South with 10.1 rebounds per contest, which ranks 30th nationally.
  • The sophomore tied a career-high with nine made field goals (on 12 attempts) in the game.
  • Polite, Jr. has had two straight double-doubles, three in the last four games and four this season, second-most in the conference. He is also first in the league and 36th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game 3.3, along remaining third in the conference in steals.
  • Radford is third among Big South teams in rebounding (36.5 per game) and leads the way with 12.5 per contest on the offensive end.
  • Justin Cousin had led or co-led the team in assists five times this season and ranks sixth in the conference with 3.1 per game. He is also fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5).
  • Christian Bradford is now third on the team in scoring at 8.1 per game, behind Polite, Jr. and Caleb Tanner ((9.2).
  • Darius Bolstad and Devonnte Holland combined to go 5 for 5 from the field Saturday and are 38 for 53 (72 percent) on the season.
  • Radford's six true road opponents this season have a combined 50-16 record, with just one being worse than 8-3.
 
SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA
  • Record: 9-1
  • West Virginia moved up one spot in the latest AP poll released on Monday after a 112-67 rout of UMKC on Saturday.
  • The Mountaineers lead the nation in six different categories, including scoring margin (34.5), turnovers forced (26.1), turnover margin (15.4) steals per game (13.9) and offensive rebounds per game (16.7).
  • West Virginia has forced at least 22 turnovers in eight of its 10 games, including 40 against Manhattan and 27 against UMKC, and stands fifth in the country in points allowed (58.1).
  • Despite having just two players averaging in double figures, the Mountaineers also rank fifth in the NCAA in scoring at 92.6 per game. Esa Ahmad leads the team at 12.6, with Nathan Adrian second at 10.8, along with a team-high 6.1 rebounds.
  • Jevon Carter leads the Big 12 and is fifth nationally with 3.2 steals per game (32 total).
  • Daxter Miles Jr. has a team-high 14 3-pointers in just seven games played, hitting on 54 percent behind the arc.
  • Eight of the team's nine wins have come by at least 30 points, with the lone exception a 66-57 road victory at Virginia. Its only loss was a four-point neutral-site decision to Temple and it defeated VMI 90-55 on Dec. 10.
  • West Virginia has outscored its opponents 450-259 in the first half alone.
  • Bob Huggins notched his 800th career victory on Saturday, becoming the 10th Division I head coach to reach that number.
