RADFORD HOSTS CONCORD SATURDAY IN FINAL NON-CONFERENCE MATCHUP



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford returns to action after nine-day break between contests with its final tuneup before Big South play as the Highlanders host NCAA Division II Concord on Saturday for a 2 p.m. matchup. The Highlanders have dropped two in a row after their seven-game winning streak was snapped.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 7-3
  • Radford is coming off a stretch of three games against Power 5 opponents, going 1-2 with a 68-60 win over Wake Forest on Dec. 10. In the two losses to Kentucky and Virginia Tech, Radford was outscored 130-88.
  • During the last two games, Radford has been held to single-digits in five out of the last eight quarters.
  • Individually, Destinee Walker has led the Highlanders in scoring seven times on the season. She has scored double-figures in eight of Radford's 10 contests, including five with 15-plus points.
  • Walker ranks tied for second in the league with 14.3 points per game and second in rebounds with 7.7 per game.
  • The sophomore leads the Big South with a .529 field goal percentage, making 55 of 104 attempts.The .529 field goal percentage ranks 66th in the country.  
  • She is the only Highlander averaging double-figures. Janayla White and Jayda Worthy follow with 9.0 points per game.
  • Last time out, White had her three-game streak of 11 rebounds snapped, corralling only seven rebounds in the loss to Virginia Tech.
  • Despite only playing in seven games, White has grabbed 58 rebounds for 8.3 per game, leading the Big South.
  • Foul trouble has plagued Worthy in the last two contests as the Toledo, Ohio native has only managed five points in 23 minutes of action.
  • Radford has been one of the best teams in the Big South and the country on the defensive side of the basketball. The Highlanders rank seventh nationally with a 32.6 field goal percentage defense and 30th in scoring defense, limiting opponents to only 55 points.
  • In the last two games, Radford's defense limited Kentucky (36.9) and Virginia Tech (35.3) to their season lows in field goal percentage.
  • The Highlanders have held seven opponents to under 35-percent shooting.
  • Dominating the defensive glass, Radford leads the conference and ranks 21st in the nation with 30.1 defensive rebounds per contest.
  • Radford has collected nine more blocks than the next closest Big South team, totaling a league best 43 and 4.3 per game. The 4.3 per contest is 72nd in the country.
  • White collected three blocks against Virginia Tech, moving her into sole possession of third place in program history with 120 career blocks.
  • The Highlanders look to close out the 2016 portion of their home schedule with a perfect record at 4-0. A season ago, Radford closed out the 2015 slate with a 5-0 record. 
 
SCOUTING CONCORD
  • Record: 1-7
  • Concord has not played in 20 days with the last game coming on Dec. 11 against Winston-Salem State. The Mountain Lions dropped the decision 65-61 for their fifth loss in a row.
  • During the five-game skid, Concord has been outscored 425-355.
  • The Mountain Lions are averaging 68.8 points per game, only scoring less than 60 points in three games. Opponents are averaging 78.8, crossing the century mark twice on the season.
  • Alexis Lowery paces the Mountain Lion offensive attack with 15.4 points per game. The senior also leads the squad with 2.7 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game.
  • Joining Lowery in double-figures, Heather Chapman averages 10.0 points per game. Chapman leads the way with 5.6 rebounds per game.
  • Concord is shooting 41.6 percent from the field, including a 30.7 clip from the 3-point line. Of the 512 shots attempted by the Mountain Lions on the season, 127 have come from behind the arc.
  • The Mountain Lions share the wealth on the floor, averaging 14.9 assists per contest.
  • In eight games, Concord has turned the ball over 169 times for 21.1 per game.
  • Radford is the second NCAA Division I opponent the Mountain Lions have faced this season. Concord traveled to West Virginia for an exhibition on Nov. 1. Lowery led all scorers in the game, finishing with 19 points on five 3-pointers.  
UP NEXT
  • Radford opens Big South play at home for the third consecutive season, hosting Gardner-Webb on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. battle.
  • The two foes split the season series in 2015-16 in narrow fashion as the first matchup was decided by four points with the second coming in a three-point decision.
