RADFORD WELCOMES ELON TO DEDMON FOR SATURDAY MATINEE



SETTING THE STAGE
  • The Radford men's basketball returns to game action Saturday afternoon when it plays host to Elon for a 4 p.m. tipoff inside the Dedmon Center.
  • Series History: Radford leads 7-4, but the teams are meeting for the first time since the 2002-03 campaign when Elon was a member of the Big South. The Highlanders are 5-1 in games at Dedmon, with Elon's victory coming in its last visit.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 3-5
  • Radford looks for its third home win in as many games this season. The Highlanders shot at least 50 percent from the field in both of the victories.
  • Justin Cousin is coming off a strong performance against North Carolina, scoring 14 points and connecting on three 3-pointers.
  • Cousin is second on the team with 21 assists, including 13 in the two prior games inside Dedmon.
  • Caleb Tanner ranks second among Big South players in 3-point percentage, connecting at a 44 percent clip (21 of 48). He is also tied for third in the conference in made 3's per game with 2.6 per outing.
  • Tanner remains the Highlanders' leading scorer at 10.3 ppg. He shot a combined 8 for 12 behind the arc in the two home wins.
  • Ed Polite, Jr. now ranks second in the Big South with 9.0 rebounds per game, second in offensive rebounds (3.3 per game) and third in steals (2.3 per game).
  • Randy Phillips stands fifth in the league with 2.5 offensive rebounds per contest.
  • Christian Bradford is third on the team with 7.9 ppg, while ranking seventh among conference players with 2.9 assists per contest.
  • Donald Hicks has averaged 14.7 ppg in Radford's three victories, reaching double figures in each game, while shooting 53 percent from the field.
  • Devonnte Holland and Darius Bolstad are a combined 29 of 42 shooting (69 percent) off the bench.
 
SCOUTING ELON
  • Record: 6-3
  • Elon won six of its first seven games for its best start in 29 years before back-to-back losses at Georgetown (77-74) Sunday and at home against UNC Asheville (78-67) Tuesday.
  • The Phoenix were doomed by a poor start in the UNCA loss, shooting just 27 percent in the first half and falling into a 15-point hole.
  • Despite its lowest scoring output of the season in that game, Elon is still averaging 82.6 points per game with players in double figures.
  • Sophomore forward Tyler Seibring tallied 21 against Asheville to take over the team lead at 12.6 ppg. He also averages a team-best 6.0 rebounds per game.  
  • Senior guard Luke Eddy, who was second on the team in scoring last season, is averaging 12.1 per game, along with a team-high 40 assists.
  • Redshirt junior forward Brian Dawkins is also at 12.1 ppg, while shooting 63 percent from both the field and 3-point range (12 of 19).
  • Sophomore guard Steven Santa Ana averages 12.0 ppg, while sophomore Dainan Swoope contributes 10.2 ppg off the bench.
  • The Phoenix rank 19th in the nation in 3-point attempts per game (251 total) and 28th in made 3's per game. They are shooting 35 percent from beyond the arc and 48 percent overall.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford will break for exams before returning to action next Saturday when it travels to 2016 CAA Tournament champion UNC Wilmington.
