RADFORD LOOKS FOR FOURTH ROAD WIN SATURDAY AT WAKE FOREST



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford looks to match its best start to a season (7-1) since 1985-86, taking their six-game winning streak into the first matchup of three straight against Power 5 opponents as the Highlanders travel to Wake Forest for the 11th meeting between the two foes on Saturday.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 6-1
  • The Highlanders cruised to a dominating 67-39 Education Day win over Western Carolina on Thursday. Radford raced out to an early 21-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
  • Radford's offense was paced by a season-high 15 points from freshman Khiana Johnson and a 14-point effort by Jayda Worthy.
  • Johnson finished with her third double-digit scoring performance with a 15-point effort on 5 of 14 shooting from the field, including two 3-pointers. Johnson finished 3 of 4 from the charity stripe.
  • The freshman paced the Highlanders in assists for the first time on the season, finishing with four.
  • Worthy chipped in 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting, nearly missing her second straight double-double with nine rebounds. After missing the previous two games, Janayla White finished with 11 rebounds and nine points in only 17 minutes of action.
  • Sydney Nunley joined White with 11 boards. Nunley has corralled 24 rebounds in the last two games, bringing her season average to 6.6 per game.
  • Destinee Walker was unable to keep her streak of six consecutive games of double-digit scoring and three-game stretch of double-doubles. Walker finished with eight points and six rebounds.
  • Walker ranks second in the Big South in scoring (15.0) and rebounding (8.0).
  • Radford has won the rebound battle five times on the season, finishing with a 50-28 edge over Western Carolina. The 50 rebounds are a season-high and the first time the Highlanders have collected 5-plus rebounds since Feb. 23, 2016 at Winthrop.
  • The Highlanders rank third in the Big South with 41.7 rebounds per game, however Radford leads the league in holding opponents to only 33.3 rebounds per game. Through seven games, Radford holds an 8.4 rebound margin.
 
SCOUTING WAKE FOREST
  • Record: 7-2
  • The Highlanders are the only Big South team on the Demon Deacons schedule for the 2016-17 season. They will however play two more Commonwealth foes, hosting VCU on Dec. 21 and traveling to James Madison on Dec. 31.
  • Wake Forest compiled a five-game winning streak earlier in the season, but had it snapped in a 70-63 loss at Seton Hall.
  • The Demon Deacons have outscored opponents 613-534 on the season for a +8.8 scoring margin (68.1-59.3).
  • Four players enter the contest averaging double-figures: Ariel Stephenson (15.6), Amber Campbell (14.7), Elisa Penna (11.9) and Milan Quinn (11.6).
  • Stephenson ranks 11th in the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring, while Campbell follows in 13th.
  • Quinn nearly averages a double-double with 9.9 rebounds per game, best in the ACC. She also ranks sixth with a .585 field goal percentage, shooting 48 for 52 from the floor.
  • The senior has collected four double-doubles on the season, ranking 22nd in the country.
  • Wake Forest is averaging 43.1 rebounds per game, holding opponents to 33.3 per contest.
  • The 43.1 rebounds per game are a league best.
  • Of Wake Forest's 388 rebounds, 263 have come on the defensive side of the ball for 29.2 defensive rebounds per game, which leads the ACC.

UP NEXT
  • Radford will take a week off for exams, returning to action on Dec. 18 at Kentucky for the second meeting all-time between the two foes.
  • The meeting is the first since Nov. 26, 1988.
  • Kentucky won the matchup, 89-83.
