CONWAY, S.C. – A strong performance by the Radford defense held Coastal Carolina to 25.8 percent shooting as the Highlanders ended their three-game Big South skid with a 49-36 win Monday night in The HTC Center.

Aisha Foy paced RU with a game-high 15 points, including a 5 of 7 clip from the free-throw line. Jayda Worthy followed with a 12-point effort with a 5 for 7 performance from the field.

After a slow first quarter, RU raced out to a 20-14 lead on a Worthy layup and deep 3-pointer by Foy, giving the Highlanders their largest lead of the first half with 4:06 remaining in the second stanza.

Janayla White grabbed 11 of her 21 rebounds in the first half as the Highlanders headed to the locker room with a 20-18 advantage.

The Highlanders closed out the third quarter on a 7-0 run as Foy raced coast-to-coast, finishing with an old fashion 3-point play, sending RU into the final quarter leading, 36-27.

Radford continued its hot streak as a 13-2 run put the game out of reach with the Highlanders cruising to a 49-36 win and the season series sweep of Coastal Carolina.

The Highlanders will receive some much needed time off before returning to the hardwood on Sunday, traveling to in-state foe Liberty for a Big South Commonwealth clash. The action is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip inside the Vines Center, with the contest broadcast on the American Sports Network.

QUOTABLE
  • "Defense continues to be our strength and what we hang our hat on. I thought it was a really well played defensive game for us. Coastal is a very dangerous team, especially when they get hot from behind the 3-point line. Our game plan was to limit their opportunities and they only made one. It was a gutsy win to get back on track." ~ Radford head coach, Mike McGuire
