HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Conner Hayden logged seven birdies en route to a 36-hole 143 (71-72) to lead the Radford men's golf team in Monday's opening two rounds of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion.
The Highlanders' combined ledger of 589 (298-291) is tied with Presbyterian for sixth place in the 17-team field. Campbell leads the chase for the team title on the strength of its 8-under-par 568 (286-282).
With 18 holes to go, Hayden is tied for ninth place and six shots behind overnight leader Andrew Novak of Wofford. Hayden was one of 12 golfers in the field to finish in red figures through 36 holes of competition.
Behind a team-best eight birdies, Nick Brediger is tied for 18th with his 1-over-par 145 (72-73). The Roanoke, Va., native was on fire during the morning round, carding five birdies (three on the back nine).
Conner Lewis marched up the leaderboard in the evening, improving two strokes to post a 148 (75-73). He is tied for 28th. Rounding out the lineup is Myles Creighton (154), who is in a tie for 64th, and Gareth Sargent (164), who stands in 88th place.
Tuesday's final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m.
