RADFORD, Va. – Radford's women's track and field team wraps up its indoor season with the Big South Championship on Friday and Saturday at Virginia Tech's Rector Fieldhouse.
The women's competition begins Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the pentathlon events, followed by the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries at 3:10 p.m. The opening day wraps up with the distance medley relay at 6:35 p.m.
Radford notched a third-place finish in last year's meet. The Highlanders currently own 10 top-10 Big South rankings this season.
Ashlen Veatch will look to finish her indoor career off with a conference title. She finished third in the weight throw last year and comes in with the second-best mark this season. Naihla Rose-Delia has had a strong season in throwing events, with several personal-bests and four top-five finishes. She ranks fifth in the conference in the shot put and ninth in the weight throw.
Like Veatch, Shania Williams also earned All-Big South honors last year, taking third in the shot put and ranks second this season.
Also in the field for the Highlanders, Katy Harriman ranks fifth in the high jump. Jessica Shelton leads the way on the track owning the fourth-best 60-meter hurdles time. She is also seventh in the pentathlon. Courtney Rice ranks seventh in the 5,000 meters, while the 4x400 relay team of Danyelle McDaniel, Ckareekeea Branch, McKenzie Schrank and Cara Myrtle posted the fifth-best time in that event last week.
"We are looking forward to the championship this weekend," Director of Track Field Brent Chumbley said. "I expect our women to step up and perform the way they have been training. The projected scores are very close right now so it all comes down to two days of competition. I know our women are ready to go."
