STATESBORO, Ga. – Zach York put together a career game, finishing with a career-high three hits and three RBI in Radford's 6-3 loss to Georgia Southern, Friday night in non-conference action inside J.I. Clements Stadium.

The Highlanders struck first for the third time on the season as York blooped a two-out single into shallow centerfield, scoring Colby Higgerson from second base. Higgerson reached on a four pitch walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch earlier in the inning.

Georgia Southern battled back, loading the bases in the bottom half of the inning. Will Hudgins drew a bases loaded walk, knotting the game at one a piece. The Eagles added two more runs in the inning on a Logan Baldwin two-out single.

Leading 3-1, the Eagles added two runs in the fourth on an Evan McDonald sacrifice bunt and a Baldwin fielders' choice. Georgia Southern padded its lead on another sac bunt, this time off the bat of Hudgins, controlling a 6-1 lead after five innings.

Radford stormed back as York collected his second and third RBIs of the evening, hammering a home run off the scoreboard in leftfield. The York blast pulled the Highlanders within 6-3 of the Eagles in the top of the sixth inning. Shane Johnsonbaugh scored on the home run, reaching on an error before York stepped to the plate.

The Highlanders were unable to inch closer, stranding two runners in the top of the eighth as the Eagles closed out a 6-3 victory in game one of the four-game series.

Radford returns to action tomorrow, playing their only doubleheader on the season. The Highlanders and Eagles will play a nine-inning contest in game one, with a seven-inning game to follow. The non-conference action is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.

QUOTABLE
  • "[Evan] Challenger did a really good job pitching on both sides of the plate tonight for Georgia Southern. Every mistake we made tonight cost us runs. Not sure how to describe the game except, they took advantage of every free base we gave them. Zack York put some good swings on the ball tonight. It's encouraging to see a young guy producing early in his career." ~ Radford head coach, Joe Raccuia
