STATESBORO, Ga. – Radford received a complete-game from Zack Ridgely in game one of the curtain raiser, earning a 2-1 victory, their first of the season. Georgia Southern avenged the game one loss with a 3-2 walk-off win in the nightcap, Saturday evening at J.I. Clements Stadium.

GAME ONE

The top of the second saw the Highlanders load the bases on a Danny Hrbek single and walks by Jonathan Gonzalez and Zach Duff. With two outs and a 1-1 count, Luke Wise laid down a perfectly executed bunt between the Georgia Southern pitcher and third basemen. Hrbek scored easily on the bunt single by Wise, giving RU an early 1-0 lead.

Wise would strike again for the Highlanders, launching a first pitch solo home run into deep rightfield. The Wise homerun gave RU a 2-0 lead after five innings.

Georgia Southern attempted a late inning comeback as Ryan Cleveland led off the bottom of the ninth with a double, later scoring on a Logan Bladwin RBI groundout. The lone run would be all the Eagles could manage as Radford picked up its first win on the season.

Fans in attendance witnessed a pitching gem from Zack Ridgely, who gave Georgia Southern batters fits all game long. Ridgley tossed his first complete game as a Highlander, allowing only one run on five hits. The sophomore finished with a season-high six strikeouts.

Win: Zack Ridgely (1-0)
Loss: Chase Cohen (0-1)

GAME TWO

Looking to build off momentum gained from its first win, Shane Johnsonbaugh drilled his third solo home run on the year, giving Radford a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

With runners on second and third, Georgia Southern added two runs on a Colby Higgerson error, taking its first lead of the doubleheader.

The lead was short lived as Hrbek led off the top of the second with a solo home run, knotting the game at two a piece.

Having already played one doubleheader on the week, Georgia Southern put two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on first and second and two outs, Eric Furphy hit groundball to Higgerson, who threw on to second base for the force out. Kent Rollins was ruled safe on the attempted force out at second base as Jordan Wren came around to score from second, giving the Eagles a 3-2 walk-off win in the seven-inning affair.

Win: Chris Brown (2-0)
Loss: Travis McQueen (0-1)

Radford looks to even the four-game series tomorrow, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.

QUOTABLE
"We really pitched well today. In game one, [Zack] Ridgley was outstanding and got us a huge first win. Our pitching carried over into the second game as [Mitchell] MacKeith and [Travis] McQueen were really good. We just didn't put anything together offensively in game two and that hurt us big time. Hopefully these late game situations will help us become a better ball club."~ Radford head coach, Joe Raccuia
