HIGHLANDERS TAKE FOURTH IN A ROW BEHIND BALANCED OFFENSE

MT PLEASANT, S.C. – Abby Morrow recorded her fourth straight win and each of Radford's nine batters in the lineup had at least one hit in an 8-1 victory over UMass-Lowell Friday on the first day of the Cougar Classic, hosted by College of Charleston.

Whitney Davis' two-run home run in the top of the second inning gave RU the lead for good, and the Highlanders (4-1) broke the game open with a five-run third. Summer Robinson went 2 for 4 with a two-run double, while Marissa Gagliano also drove in a pair of runs. Morrow shook off an early UMass-Lowell run to allow just four hits over five innings with two walks, while the defense was flawless behind her.

After Casey Burns reached on an error with two outs in the second, Davis followed with her first longball of the season and 23rd of her career.

The Highlanders then used five hits and an error in the third to push their lead to 7-1. Nia Chiles led off with an infield single, stole second and came home on a throwing error on a ball hit by Gagliano, who then advanced on a passed ball and scored on an infield single by Hannah Medlam.

Becky Mantel followed with a single to left-center before Robinson's double down the left-field line made it 6-1. After an infield hit by Marissa Yow, Robinson scored on an illegal pitch.

Radford capped the scoring in the sixth as Kayla Bishton hit a leadoff single, moved to second on a sacrifice by Chiles and scored on Gagliano's RBI single up the middle.

Kayla Huffman pitched the final two innings for the Highlanders, holding UMass-Lowell without a hit and striking out three and walking three.

The four-game win streak is Radford's longest since April of 2014. RU will face the Riverhawks again Saturday and follow with a matchup against host College of Charleston. The two game times have been moved to 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
