MORROW PITCHES 3-HITTER, BUT RADFORD FALLS TO HOKIES, 2-1

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Abby Morrow delivered her second straight strong pitching performance, but two early Virginia Tech runs were enough to post a 2-1 home victory over Radford Wednesday evening in Blacksburg.

Morrow limited to the Hokies to just three hits, allowed just one earned and retired the last 10 batters she faced. However, Tech leadoff batter Olivia Lattin had two of the hits, accounting for both of her team's runs.

Radford totaled four hits against Virginia Tech starter Maggie Tyler, with Marissa Gagliano driving in the Highlander run.

Lattin helped Tech take a 1-0 lead in the first, doubling to left field, advancing to third on a passed ball and scoring on a groundout to short.

The Highlanders put two runners on in the second as Summer Robinson singled and Kayla Bishton walked, but Tyler got a pair of strikeouts to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third, catcher Marissa Yow threw a runner out trying to steal second, but Lattin followed with a home run to left-center.

Radford got on the board in the top of the fifth as Whitney Davis led off with an infield single, moved to second on a walk to Nia Chiles and scored when Gagliano poked an RBI single past the third baseman down the left-field line. Gagliano now has at least one hit in nine of the team's 10 games. The Highlanders still had two on with one out in the inning, but Tyler again struck out consecutive batters to maintain the lead. She finished with 10 strikeouts.

Morrow (4-4) didn't allow a hit over her final three innings or a baserunner after a two-out error in the third. She had three strikeouts and no walks, but suffered her second straight loss with just one earned run allowed.

Radford returns to action this weekend at the Seahawk Softball Showcase, facing host UNC Wilmington and Virginia each once on Saturday and Sunday.
