RADFORD, Va. – After having last weekend's meet cancelled, the Radford women's track and field team gets to compete outdoors for the first time in 2016 at the three-day Winthrop Invitational.
While the meet begins Thursday with multi events, the Highlanders will make their season debut Friday beginning in the field with the hammer throw at 2 p.m. and on the track with the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries at 3 p.m.
Coming off of earning All-Big South honors during the indoor season, Jessica Shelton, Katy Harriman and Naihla Rose-Delia will all see action in the meet. Shelton and Monica Mallory are both scheduled for five events, beginning with the 100 hurdles. Harriman will compete in the high jump, while Rose-Delia takes part in the hammer throw and shot put.
2015 NCAA East Preliminary qualifier Ashlen Veatch takes part in the hammer throw, and Shania Williams, who claimed Big South runner-up honors in the shot last year, competes in that event.
Cara Myrtle will see action three times on Saturday in the 400-meter hurdles and two relays, while distance runners Courtney Rice and Courtney Burton take part in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Along with host Winthrop, Big South preseason favorite Liberty is in the field. Other Division I women's teams include Charlotte, UNC Wilmington, USC Upstate and Ohio.
