SOFTBALL SET TO TAKE ON VIRGINIA, UNC WILMINGTON

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford softball team competes in its final regular-season tournament this weekend as it faces a pair of games with both Virginia and UNC Wilmington as part of the Seahawk Softball Showcase in Wilmington, N.C.
 
The Highlanders (6-4) will play host UNCW Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a matchup against Virginia at 3 p.m. The games against UNC Wilmington on both Saturday and Sunday will be streamed live.
 
In her last two starts, Abby Morrow has allowed just seven hits and two earned runs, while recording seven strikeouts and no walks. For the season, she has a 2.60 ERA and just three walks in 43 innings. Offensively, Summer Robinson leads the way with 13 hits and six RBIs. Marissa Gagliano has 12 hits and a team-high eight RBIs, while Marissa Yow has recorded 10 hits and driven in six runs.
 
SCOUTING UNC WILMINGTON
UNC Wilmington (10-4) has played all 14 of its games at home, with this the fourth straight tournament it has hosted. The Seahawks went 3-2 last weekend with going 2-0 against North Carolina Central and 1-2 versus Bucknell.
 
Five UNCW pitchers have combined for a 1.82 team ERA, with three making at least four starts. Peyton Jordan is 3-1 with a 2.92 ERA, while Davis is 3-1 with a 1.56 ERA and Haley Lendermen is 3-0 with a 0.28 ERA. Davis has recorded 33 strikeouts in 31.1 innings. The Seahawks are hitting .284 as a team, led by Kali Jones' .469 average. Merritt Wilkinson had totaled 11 RBIs, while Claudia Spinelli had nine, along with five doubles. Sarah Davis has hit each of the team's three home runs. 
 
Radford is 14-5 all-time against UNCW, but the teams haven't played since 2007, when the Highlanders took an 11-10 eight-inning decision on a neutral field.
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA
Virginia (6-9) is playing in its fourth consecutive tournament on the road, having opened the season with trips to Tempe, Ariz., and San Antonio, Texas. Last weekend, the Cavaliers competed in the USC Upstate tournament, going 3-2 with wins over Furman, Ohio and LaSalle.
 
The Cavaliers have posted a .296 batting average with seven players over .300, led by Katie Park. Park has 21 hits in 47 at-bats (.447), including four home runs and seven doubles, while totaling 21 RBIs. Ivana Hughes is hitting .364 with three home runs, eight RBIs and team-highs of 16 runs and seven stolen bases. Kaitlin Fitzgerald has driven in nine runs and is one of six Cavaliers with multiple homers. In the circle, Erika Osherow and Lacy Smith have combined to start all but one of the team's games. Osherow is 4-7 with a 4.15 ERA. She has 41 strikeouts in 57.1 innings. Smith owns a 1-1 record with a 5.92 ERA in 23.3 innings over eight appearances.
 
Virginia leads the series with RU 16-14, with the teams last facing each other in 2012, splitting a doubleheader in Charlottesville.
