RADFORD FINISHES SWEEP OF PC FOR NINTH STRAIGHT VICTORY

RADFORD, Va. – Another strong outing from Abby Morrow and a two-out rally in the fourth inning propelled the Radford softball to a 4-1 win over Presbyterian Sunday afternoon, giving the Highlanders the three-game sweep and their ninth consecutive victory overall.

The win streak is the longest for Radford since 2011 and moved the Highlanders (29-15 overall) into a tie for second place in the Big South Conference standings at 10-5.

Morrow allowed her first earned run in five starts and issued her first walk in 42 innings, but still was more than good enough to notch her sixth straight victory. She allowed five hits and struck out six.

Nia Chiles, Hannah Medlam and Jessica Curbiera each had two hits and an RBI to lead the way offensively for the Highlanders as they totaled a series-high 10 hits.

All four of Radford's runs came on two-out hits, beginning with Chiles' RBI triple in the third inning. Medlam reached on a one-out single to center and came all the way home as Chiles hit one over the left-fielder and slid into third with her first triple of the season and the Highlanders' 14th.

Presbyterian (21-22, 7-10) did its only damage in the top of the fourth as a single was followed by an RBI double from Kelsie Sanchez to tie it.

However, Radford answered with the decisive three-run bottom of the inning, using four consecutive hits with two outs. Back-to-back doubles to left by Whitney Davis and Kayla Bishton put the Highlanders back ahead 2-1. Curbiera then dropped an RBI single into shallow left and Medlam greeted Blue Hose reliever Katie Brown with a run-scoring single to center.

Backed by solid defense, including key plays from Chiles and Gagliano up the middle, Morrow did the rest, allowing just one base hit over the final three frames.

Also in the game, Becky Mantel singled in the fifth inning to move her reached base streak to 18 in a row.

The Highlanders put their wins steak on the line and continue their homestand on Wednesday night when they host Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. in the final non-conference game of the season.
