RICHMOND, Va. – After more than a five-hour rain delay, the 13-team field was able to finish day one of the 2016 Janney VCU Shootout with the Highlanders standing in ninth place with a four-over par 292. The shootout was set to be a 54-hole tournament, but with mother nature not cooperating, the shootout has been decreased to a 36-hole event at The Country Club of Virginia's Tuckahoe Creek Course.
The Highlanders stand two strokes behind eighth place UNC Greensboro and six strokes behind seventh place West Virginia. Virginia Tech leads the pack with a 12-under 276 through 18 holes.
Myles Creighton did not appear to be bothered by the rainy conditions as the junior stands in a tie for sixth place after firing four-under 68. The Canadian did not commit a bogey, birding four holes in the process. Creighton trails the leader by two strokes.
Following Creighton, Conner Lewis continued his strong start to the season, finishing day one with a one-under 71. Lewis is tied for 19th place, joining Creighton with four birdies.
After finishing the front nine two-over par, Ben Ramsey battled back to shoot one-under on the back nine for a 73. The junior is tied for 33rd place.
Radford will only have to play 18 holes on Tuesday, teeing off at 8:45 a.m. The Highlanders will be paired up with UNC Greensboro and West Virginia.
