SETTING THE STAGE
- Radford opens the home portion of its 2016 schedule Saturday night as the Highlanders host Davidson at 7 p.m. inside Cupp Stadium.
- The Highlanders and Wildcats last met on Sept. 29, 2010 in Davidson, N.C., ending in a 2-2 draw.
- holds a 7-2-2 record in the all-time series.
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
- Record: 2-0-0
- Radford started the season off with wins over North Carolina St. and Lehigh, marking the first time since 1994/1995 that the Highlanders have started the season off 2-0 in back-to-back seasons.
- The wins propelled Radford into 20th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Poll, announced on Tuesday. RU ranks seventh in the NSCAA South Region rankings.
- The Highlander defense pitched two shutouts during the opening weekend, limiting the two opponents to eight shots with five on goal in 180 minutes.
- Goalkeeper Aitor Pouseu Blanco now has 17 career shutouts, which ranks third in RU history and 10th in the Big South.
- Senior Garland Smith and sophomore Sivert Daehlie have scored the first two RU goals to start the season.
- Smith leads the squad with six shots and three on goal. Daehlie follows with five shots and two on goal.
- Radford has not started the season off 3-0-0 since 1994.
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
- Record: 0-2-0
- The Wildcats suffered a 3-1 setback to Gardner-Webb on Aug. 26 and a 2-0 loss to Wofford on Aug. 29.
- In the loss to Gardner-Webb, Davidson fired 17 shots, including five on goal.
- Senior Christian Fechter has the lone goal for the Wildcats with junior Nathan Marder assisting.
- The Wildcats haven't started the season 0-3-0 since 2007.
UP NEXT
- The Highlanders will hit the road again, but will stay in the Commonwealth, taking on VCU on Sept. 9 and Old Dominion on Sept. 11.
