WORTHY WINS SECOND STRAIGHT BIG SOUTH POW AWARD

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second consecutive week, Jayda Worthy has been named the Big South Conference's Player of the Week, giving the Highlanders their fifth weekly honor of the season.

Worthy joins Presbyterian's Cortney Storey as the only two-time player of the week recipient this season.

In a pair of Big South wins over Campbell and Longwood, Worthy averaged 20.5 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game. Worthy tallied 41 points on 18 of 22 shooting, including a 2 for 3 clip from behind the arc in 61 minutes of action. The junior also grabbed 19 rebounds with 12 coming on the offensive glass.

"Jayda had another outstanding week. What's impressive to me is that she is competing and making hustle plays but she is also letting the game come to her," said head coach Mike McGuire. "She's playing to her strengths and is confident in the decisions she is making. Jayda is playing efficiently right now, while practicing and preparing well."

Worthy turned in a 17-point performance on 7 of 9 shooting to go along with nine rebounds in Radford's 61-42 win over Campbell on Jan. 10. Eleven days removed from setting her previous career high of 20 points, Worthy poured 24 points in a dominating offensive performance as Radford collected a 73-55 victory over Longwood on Saturday.

In the win over Longwood, Worthy made her first six shots to start the game and finished 11 for 13 from the field, setting another career high with 11 made field goals. She also corralled 10 rebounds and collected two steals in the win.

Worthy became the first Highlander to make 10-plus field goals in a game since Jan. 27, 2015, when Ayana Avery made 10 field goals against Gardner-Webb.

The Toledo, Ohio native has scored 88 points over the last five games, improving her season average to 11.9 ppg. She has also grabbed 31 rebounds in the last three games to improve the season average to 6.6 per game.

"I'm not sure if I have coached a player that has had this type of efficiency in the last two weeks that Jayda has had," McGuire noted. "Her play, along with our team has been fun to watch."

Through four Big South games, Worthy is shooting 75.6 percent from the floor, making 31 of 41 attempts. She leads the conference in scoring with 18.8 ppg, scoring 75 points in the four league games. On the season, Worthy now has a team-high four double-doubles and 10 in her career.

Worthy and the Highlanders return to action on Tuesday, hosting High Point for a 7 p.m. Big South matchup.
