RADFORD LOOKS FOR BEST BIG SOUTH START SINCE 1991-92 ON SATURDAY



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford travels to Charleston, S.C., looking to improve to 6-0 in Big South play for the first time since the 1991-92 season with a 3 p.m. Saturday matchup against Charleston Southern.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 13-3, 5-0 Big South
  • Radford stayed perfect at home (7-0) with a 59-56 victory over High Point on Tuesday night. The three-point Highlander victory was the third consecutive game decided by three points or less played inside the Dedmon Center between the two teams.
  • The Highlanders have played eight games that have been decided by three points or less since the 2015-16 campaign, compiling a 6-2 record in those games.
  • Under head coach Mike McGuire, Radford is 16-8 in games decided by five points or less.
  • In the win over High Point, Claudia Quevedo led the way with 13 points, marking the third time in her career that she has led the Highlanders in points.
  • Quevedo's season-high 13 points came on 5 of 11 shooting, including three made 3-pointers. The redshirt-sophomore added 10 points in the second half. Quevedo matched a career high in rebounds with five.
  • After scoring 10 points on a 4 for 4 shooting effort in the first half, Jayda Worthy was held to two points in the second half to finish with her sixth straight double-digit performance with 12 points.
  • The reigning Big South Player of the Week has scored 87 points through five conference games on 36 for 49 effort from the floor.
  • Worthy leads the conference with a 73.5 field goal percentage and 17.4 points per game.
  • In addition, Worthy has grabbed 41 of her 106 rebounds in league games, averaging 8.2 per game in the Big South.
  • Freshman Khiana Johnson collected her third double-figure performance in Big South play with 10 points against High Point. She is averaging 8.4 ppg in league play, ranking 26th.
  • Johnson has tallied seven double-digit performances this season.
  • Through the five Big South games, Radford has racked up 76 assists to rank second in the league with 15.2 per game.
  • Destinee Walker has dished out 22 of the assists to rank third in the league with 4.4 assists per game.
  • Also, seeing an increase in assists, Jen Falconer finished non-conference play with 18 assists. In the five Big South games, Falconer has tallied 21 assists, including games of six and seven assists. She is averaging 2.4 on the season and 4.2 in Big South play.
  • As a team, Radford has improved its field goal percentage to 41.8 with the help of 44.6 shooting percentage in Big South play.
  • Radford owns a scoring margin of +12.0 in Big South play. The Highlanders average 64.0 per game, while opponents are averaging 52.0.
 
SCOUTING CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
  • Record: 8-8, 2-3 Big South
  • Charleston Southern enters the contest having played three out of their first five Big South games on the road. The Buccaneers are 1-1 in league games played in the Buc Dome.
  • The Bucs dropped an 81-72 decision to Liberty in the conference opener on Jan. 3 with the first win coming on Jan. 14 in a 71-52 decision over Winthrop.
  • Charleston Southern is the only team in the Big South to sport two players in the Big South's top five scorers.
  • Ke'Asia Jackson leads the conference with 15.4 ppg, while Alyssa Mann is fifth with 12.6 per game.
  • The duo has combined for 420 of the 1,014 points scored by the Bucs.
  • Jackson leads the league with a 91.8 free throw percentage and is second with a 44.3 field goal percentage.
  • Mann has dished out a Big South best 70 assists, while leading the conference and ranking 79th nationally with 4.7 assists per game.
  • The redshirt senior has also totaled 34 steals, ranking second in the league with 2.3 steals per game.
  • Charleston Southern is one of the best assisting teams in the Big South, totaling 204 assists through 16 games for 12.8 per game.
  • The Bucs have forced a league best 340 turnovers (21.3 per game), while owning a +5.25 turnover margin.
  • In addition to the turnovers, Charleston Southern has collected 145 steals, averaging 9.1 per contest.   
  • Charleston Southern has outscored opponents in the first three quarters, but have been outscored 302-255 in the fourth quarter.

  • Radford will host Liberty on Jan. 24 for the first matchup in the Battle for the Blue Ridge in a 7 p.m. contest.
