RADFORD AND LIBERTY SQUARE OFF IN TUESDAY NIGHT BLUE RIDGE BATTLE



SETTING THE STAGE
  • After watching their second longest winning streak of the season (six games) snapped on Saturday, Radford will look to start a new streak on Tuesday against Liberty in a 7 p.m. Battle of the Blue Ridge matchup.
  • Series: Liberty, 42-24
  • Liberty has won 12 straight in the series with Radford's last win coming on Jan. 17, 2011 in a 62-53 decision.
  • Radford's last win over Liberty in the Dedmon Center came on March 3, 2007 in a 77-54 win.
  • The Flames hold a 16-14 record inside the Dedmon Center.
  • Radford holds a 7-0 record at home this season, while winning their last 10 home matchups dating back to last season.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 13-4, 5-1 Big South
  • After a using a 20-0 second quarter run to build a 15-point lead, Radford managed only 17 second half points in a 57-45 loss to Charleston Southern on Saturday.
  • The Highlanders only scored three points in the third quarter, while shooting 20 percent in the second half for a season low 25.9 field goal percentage.
  • Radford scored 17 points in the second half, their lowest total on the season.
  • In the last two games, Radford has scored only 39 points in the second half.
  • The Highlanders went 11 for 17 from the free throw line, marking the first time they have shot over 70 percent from the charity stripe since Dec. 31 against Concord.
  • Radford finished with a dominating 50-28 rebounding performance. The 50 rebounds mark the second time this season the Highlanders have went over the half-century mark.
  • The Highlanders rank second in the league with 41.1 rebounds per game, including 40.5 in Big South contests. Radford owns a +7.5 rebounding margin.
  • In the two Big South contests on the week, Destinee Walker scored 24 points on a perfect 7 for 7 from the charity stripe. Walker improves her free throw percentage to .782, ranking fourth in the Big South.
  • After a 15-point performance against Charleston Southern, Walker has tallied 13 double-digit scoring performances on the season. She ranks third in scoring in the league with 13.6 per game.
  • Janayla White followed Walker as the only two Highlanders in double-figures; finishing with 11 points and 16 rebounds in the Saturday loss. Of the season-high 16 rebounds, 12 came on the offensive glass.
  • White ranks second in the Big South in rebounding with 8.1 rpg in only 14 contests. The junior is grabbing 3.1 offensive rebounds per game for fourth best in the league.
  • Through 14 games, White has blocked 24 shots to lead the Big South with 1.7 per game.
  • Jayda Worthy was held to single-digits (seven points) last time out for the first time in Big South play. Worthy has scored 94 points through six games on 39 of 62 shooting for a 62.9 field goal percentage.  
  • Worthy has totaled 51 rebounds for an 8.5 Big South average, including 27 on the offensive glass.
  • Following Worthy, Walker has scored 73 points in conference games for 12.2 per game. She is shooting 40.0 percent from the floor, making 26 of 65 attempts.
  • Claudia Quevedo has started to catch fire from behind the arc in league play as the Spaniard has made 12 of 33 attempts.
  • Of Radford's 84 offensive rebounds in Big South play, Worthy and White has combined for 50.
  • In Big South play, Radford has outrebounded opponents 243-181.
  • Radford turned the ball over a season-high 25 times against Charleston Southern. The Highlanders have 291 turnovers on the season, ranking fourth in the league. Radford has only forced 253 turnovers, which ranks eighth.
 
SCOUTING LIBERTY
  • Record: 5-12, 4-2 Big South
  • Liberty is coming off a 64-54 loss to UNC Asheville on Saturday as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 18-4 lead to start the game while holding the Flames to a 34.8 shooting percentage.
  • The Flames will look to avoid suffering back-to-back Big South losses for just the third time in Carey Green's 18 seasons as head coach. Liberty dropped consecutive conference games in 2013-14 and 2015-16.
  • Liberty is 1-2 versus in-state foes this season and 1-9 away from the Vines Center.
  • The Flames' offense is off to a good start in 2017 with 76.3 ppg to go along with a 43.0 field goal percentage and 40.5 percentage from behind the arc. Liberty averaged 54.9 ppg on 32.5 percent from the field and 24.5 percent from three-point range in 11 games in 2016.
  • Freshman sensation Keyen Green paces the Liberty offense this season as the Philadelphia, Pa. native has captured four conference weekly awards, including three straight. Green is the only Liberty player averaging double-figures with 11.8 ppg. She is 77 for 135 from the field for a 57.0 field goal percentage.
  •  In addition, Green leads the Big South and ranks second among the nation's freshmen in rebounding with 8.6 rpg.
  • Green has tallied six double-doubles and three 20-point performances in the last 12 games.
  • Boasting one of the youngest rosters in the Big South, Liberty's seven freshmen have combined to score 61.2 percent of the team's points this season as five of the top six scorers are freshmen.
  • Liberty is one of the best rebounding teams in the country, leading the Big South and ranking seventh in the country with 45.5 rpg. The Flames crash the boards on offense, racking up 330 offensive rebounds for 19.4 per game, ranking second nationally.
  • Their +9.5 rebounding margin is 15th best in the land. 
  • Liberty has outrebounded seven consecutive opponents and has grabbed 20 or more offensive rebounds eight times this season.
  • Green leads the Flames in rebounding with 8.6 per game, while Kierra Johnson-Graham (5.7) and KK Barbour (5.1) round out the top rebounders.
  • Green, Johnson-Grahman and Barbour are responsible for 155 of Liberty's 330 rebounds.
  • Radford's defense allows only 54.0 ppg and Liberty is 5-4 on the season when scoring 60 or more points. The Flames are 0-8 when held below the 60-point mark.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford will the road on Saturday for their last weekend road contest till March 4. The Highlanders will take on UNC Asheville in a 2:30 p.m. battle.
  • The Bulldogs swept last year's two regular season matchups to end Radford's two-game winning streak in the series.
  • The Highlanders last win in Asheville, N.C. came in a 67-65 decision on Jan. 20, 2015.
