RADFORD, CAMPBELL FACE OFF ON NATIONAL STAGE THURSDAY NIGHT



SETTING THE STAGE
  • The Radford men's basketball team will look to break a three-game home losing streak when it faces Campbell Thursday night in a primetime matchup on ESPNU. Tipoff inside the Dedmon Center is set for 7 p.m.
  • It will be the Highlanders' first home appearance on the network since Feb. 13, 2014, when they defeated UNC Asheville 102-92.
  • Series History: Radford leads the series 21-14 and has won four straight meetings, including a regular-season sweep last year. The Highlanders hold a 12-4 all-time record at home.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 9-11, 4-4
  • Ed Polite, Jr. has posted four consecutive double-doubles, giving him nine on the season, which shares the Big South lead and ranks tied for 24th nationally. He is averaging 11.0 ppg and 12.3 rpg during the stretch. For the season, he stands 25th in the NCAA in rebounding at 10.1 per game, along with his 10.5 ppg.
  • The sophomore also tied a career-high with six steals and set a career-best with five assists while adding two blocks in Saturday's game against High Point.
  • In conference play, Polite, Jr. ranks first in rebounding (10.4 per game), tied for third in steals (2.1), third in blocks (1.8) and fourth in offensive rebounds (2.9). He is also tied for 13th in assists (2.6).
  • Despite falling short of double figures for the first time in five games Saturday, Justin Cousin remains the Highlanders' scoring leader at 10.9 ppg and now has a team-high 48 3-pointers. In conference play, he ranks third in made 3's per game (3.3) and 11th in scoring (14.1).
  • Donald Hicks has tallied seven double-figure scoring games during his freshman season and is averaging 10.4 ppg over the last five outings.
  • Christian Bradford ranks third in the conference with 3.6 assists per game and tied for third at 4.3 during league play.
  • Darius Bolstad is tied for second in the Big South in blocks per game (1.7), while Randy Phillips is second in offensive rebounds per game (3.6).
  • During its three-game home losing streak, Radford is averaging 18.3 points and shooting 25 percent in the first half, while tallying 40.3 points on 53 percent shooting in the second half.
  • The loss to High Point was the first time since the North Carolina game in which the Highlanders were outrebounded, snapping a streak of 11 straight contests, and just the fourth time all season. They remain first in the conference at 38.3 per game and 40.0 against league foes.
  • The four made 3-pointers against High Point were Radford's fewest since the Akron game on Nov. 20 and the first time it had less than seven in a conference contest.
  • However, the Highlanders remain tied for second during league play in 3-point percentage, while ranking tied for second in blocks per game and fourth in assists and field-goal percentage defense.
  • Radford committed a season-low eight turnovers in the High Point game and won the turnover battle for the first time in Big South play and the third time this season. 
 
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
  • Record: 10-10, 3-5
  • Campbell has lost three straight and four of its last five, including a 72-56 decision at UNC Asheville last Saturday. The other losses came at Liberty and home against Winthrop and High Point. The lone victory in the stretch was at Gardner-Webb.
  • Sophomore Chris Clemons leads the Big South and ranks eighth in the nation with 22.8 ppg, while averaging 23.4 per game in league play.
  • The 2015-16 Freshman of the Year became the fastest sophomore in conference history to reach 1,000 career points, doing so in his 49th career game.
  • Clemons is shooting 44 percent from the floor, 35 percent (60-173) from 3-point range and 82 percent at the free-throw line. His 342 shot attempts are the seventh-most in the NCAA, while his 149 makes are tied for 13th. He leads the conference with 3.0 made 3-pointers per game
  • The 5-9 guard has tallied 24 or more points in five of the eight conference games, but was held to a season-low 10 in the loss at Asheville on 4 of 15 shooting.
  • In the two matchups against Radford last year, Clemons averaged 22.0 ppg while making 17 of 39 field-goal attempts.
  • Redshirt junior forward Shane Whitfield is second on the team with 12.9 ppg, with senior guard Kyre' Hamer third at 9.9 (11.3 in conference).
  • Marcus Burk contributes 8.1 ppg, while hitting 48 percent from behind the arc (37 of 77).
  • Andrew Eudy is one of five Fighting Camels averaging 4.0 or more rebounds, but his 4.7 is the team high. 
  • In league play, Campbell ranks fifth in scoring (70.6), sixth in points allowed (70.9), fourth in field-goal percentage (45.6) and ninth in rebounding (29.8).
