RADFORD AIMS FOR 3-0 CONFERENCE BEGINNING WEDNESDAY



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Following a pair of impressive wins in its first two Big South Conference games, Radford's men's basketball team seeks its first 3-0 league start since 2009-10 when it plays host to Gardner-Webb Wednesday at 7 p.m. inside the Dedmon Center.
  • Series History: The series is tied at 8-8 after the teams exchanged double-digit victories on their respective homecourts last season. The Highlanders have won two straight over the Bulldogs in the Dedmon Center, both by 10-point margins.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 7-7, 2-0
  • Radford is 2-0 in the conference for the first time since 2013-14, has won three in a row overall and takes a perfect 5-0 home record into the game.
  • Reigning Big South Co-Player of the Week Caleb Tanner is coming off of 24 and 20-point games, having connected on 11 3-pointers in those outings. Tanner now leads the team with 10.6 ppg, ranks second in the Big South in made 3-pointers per game with 2.6 (37 total) and is fifth in shooting behind the arc at 42 percent.
  • Radford has made at least 10 3-pointers in each of its last three games, including 16 during Saturday's win at Winthrop, while shooting 44 percent (37 for 85) during that span and 48 percent in the two conference games.
  • In the last four games, Justin Cousin has connected on 15 of 26 attempts (58 percent) from long range. He is now averaging 9.2 ppg for the season, while shooting 38 percent on 3-pointers.
  • Christian Bradford has dished out 20 assists in the last three contests, moving up to third in the conference with 3.6 per game. He is also tied for third with a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio.
  • The Highlanders have totaled 62 assists as a team in the last three victories and rank tied for third in the conference at 14.0 per game. They are first in league play with 20.0 per outing.
  • Ed Polite, Jr. maintains his league-lead in rebounding at 9.5 per game, while ranking second on the offensive end at 3.2 and tied for third in steals per game (1.8) along with averaging 10.3 ppg.
  • Christian Lutete is coming off a career-high 13-point game against Winthrop and has averaged 11.0 ppg while making 5 of 7 3-pointers in the two conference wins.
 
SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
  • Record: 7-8, 0-2
  • Picked fourth in the Big South preseason poll, Gardner-Webb dropped its opener at home to High Point (71-64), before falling in overtime at UNC Asheville (90-85) on Saturday.
  • In its final two non-conference games, the Runnin' Bulldogs won at Nebraska and lost at Kansas State by 13.
  • Preseason All-Big South first-team pick Tyrell Nelson totaled just 10 points in the first two league games while being hampered by illness. However, the senior forward did grab 21 rebounds, including 14 in the High Point game.
  • For the season, Nelson is first in league in field-goal percentage (56.5) and fourth in rebounding (6.9), while averaging 12.5 ppg.
  • Sophomore guard LaQuincy Rideau ranks first in the Big South with 4.8 assists per game (72 total), while leading the Runnin' Bulldogs with 13.4 ppg.
  • Sophomore guard David Efianayi averages 12.6 ppg off the bench, while junior Jamaal Robateau is just under double figures at 9.2 per game and leads the team with 29 3-pointers and is shooting 43 percent behind the arc.
  • Gardner-Webb ranks first in the conference in rebounds per game (38.4) and rebounding margin, just ahead of Radford in both categories. The Runnin' Bulldogs are also third in the offensive rebounds.
  • The team also leads the way in field-goal percentage (48.0) and is second in field-goal percentage defense (41.5) and steals.
