RADFORD LOOKS TO REBOUND AT PRESBYTERIAN SATURDAY AFTERNOON



SETTING THE STAGE
  • The Radford men's basketball team will look for its second straight conference road victory Saturday as it travels to Clinton, S.C. for a matchup against Presbyterian. Tipoff inside the Templeton Center has been moved up to 4 p.m.
  • Series History: The Highlanders hold a 10-7 all-time lead, but Presbyterian won both matchups last season, each by a single point, including a buzzer-beating 65-64 decision in the first round of the Big South Tournament. Radford is 4-4 in Clinton, with the most recent a 69-68 loss last January.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 7-8, 2-1
  • Radford is 5-2 this season in games after a loss and will try to bounce back from Wednesday's 70-59 setback, its first in Big South play.
  • Caleb Tanner has posted double figures in three straight games, a total of seven this season and 10 for his career (in 35 games played). Tanner has also led the team in scoring seven times and made at least four 3-pointers six times this year.
  • Through the first three conference games, the sophomore guard is sixth in the league with 18.7 ppg and tied for first with 15 made 3-pointers, shooting 58 percent behind the arc. For the season, Tanner is at 10.7 ppg and remains second in made 3's per game and percentage (43.6).
  • Christian Bradford has dished out 18 assists in the three conference games, leading the league at 6.0 per game. Bradford has recorded at least four helpers in each of the last five contests, including a total of 25 during the last four. He is averaging 3.7 on the season and 4.4 in his 11 starts.
  • Ed Polite, Jr.'s 13-rebound outing against Gardner-Webb was his 13th career double-digit performance and sixth this season, including five with a total of at least 13.
  • Polite, Jr.'s conference-leading rebounding average is now at 9.7 per game, along with 10.2 ppg, 3.0 offensive rebounds per game, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks.
  • Randy Phillips tied his career high with 12 rebounds Wednesday, including eight on the offensive end, giving him 10 in the Big South play, tied for second-most in the league.
  • Radford has outrebounded its opponent in 11 of the last 12 games and 12 of the 15 overall, with Wake Forest, Akron and North Carolina the exceptions.
  • Through the first Big South games, the Highlanders lead in 3-point percentage, overall rebounding, rebounding margin and offensive rebounding, are tied for first in made 3's and are second in assists and blocks.
 
SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
  • Record: 4-10, 0-3
  • Presbyterian is coming off a 79-76 loss at Longwood Wednesday night, despite holding an 11-point lead early in the second half. Its other conference defeats were at home to Liberty (77-61) and at Campbell (69-58).
  • The Blue Hose are 4-1 at home, including victories over Furman (73-71) and VMI (77-67).
  • With standout DeSean Murray transferring to Auburn, freshmen Jo'Vontae Millner and J.C. Younger are two of the team's top three scorers this season.
  • Millner, a 6-6 forward, leads the way at 11.5 ppg, along with a team-best 6.1 rebounds per contest. He has scored in double figures nine times, although just once in the three league contests.
  • Younger, a 6-4 guard, is averaging 8.6 ppg and shares the team-lead with 19 3-pointers.
  • Redshirt junior Reggie Dillard is second on the team with 9.0 ppg, including 14 and 12-point outings in the last two games. He also leads the team with 3.5 assists. Against Radford last year, he scored in double figures both times, averaging 12.0 ppg.
  • Four other players average at least 6.2 ppg, led by Ed Drew at 7.9, along with a team-best 34 offensive rebounds.
  • Presbyterian is last in Big South play in scoring (65.0) and field-goal percentage defense and eighth in points allowed (75.0) and total rebounding (29.3), although it ranks first in rebounding defense, giving up just 28.0 per game.
